Short test: Opel Corsa 1.0 Turbo (85 kW) Cosmo (5 doors)

Before we get to the engine, a word about the "remnant" of this Corsa: we can't blame it for its lackluster shape. While it may seem a little too similar to its predecessor from the side, a glance at the nose or rear makes it clear that this is the latest, fifth generation, and that Opel's designers followed the basic principles of home design. As a result, the mouth is wide open, there is no shortage of sharper touches, and it all looks nice, especially if the Corsa is bright red. As for the interior, it's mid-range and we looked a little sideways at some of the design moves, especially the plastic parts, as they (like the steering wheel levers) are too close to what we're used to in the old Corse.

The same goes for the sensors and the monochrome screen in between, and the Intellilink system (with its nice color LCD touchscreen) isn't exactly an intuitive operating model, but it's true that it does the job well. There is plenty of room in the back, depending on which class of car the Corsa belongs to, the same goes for the trunk and the overall feel of the car. And the bottom line is that the Corsa was under the hood. There was a turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine which, with its 85 kilowatts or 115 "horses", far surpasses its 1,4-liter counterpart. The basic principles that Opel engineers adhered to when designing the three-liter turbine were as little noise as possible, as smooth as possible and, of course, as little fuel consumption and emissions as possible.

The trishaft does make noise when accelerating at higher revs, but with a nice throaty and slightly sporty sound. However, when the driver is cruising in the higher gears of the new six-speed manual and at somewhere between a thousand and two and a half revs, the engine is barely audible, but interestingly, it is (at least subjectively) a bit louder. than the 90 hp version in Adam Rocks. But still: with this engine, the Corsa is not only a lively, but also a smoothly motorized car - while the consumption on a normal lap stopped at exactly the same figure as with the 1,4-liter engine, and the test was noticeably lower. So the technology development here is quite clear and yes, this engine is a great choice for the Corsa.

evaluation

  • The Corsa may not be the most revolutionary, regardless of its predecessor or competitors, but with this engine it is a very pleasant and dynamic enough representative of the class to which it belongs.
