Short test: Renault Captur dCi 90 Dynamique

Renault filled the gap perfectly with the Captur and our first contact with the car was very positive. In the spring we tested the TCe 120 EDC petrol version, and this time we got behind the wheel of a Captur with a 1,5-liter turbodiesel labeled dCi 90, which, as the name suggests, can produce 90 hp. '.

So this is the most popular diesel Captur for anyone who loves diesels because of the torque or who travel many miles.

The engine is an old friend and now we can say that it has been thoroughly tested, so this is the most reasonable purchase. Of course, if your car with 90 "horses" is powerful enough. For an average mature couple, or even a family, there's certainly enough power and torque, but you don't expect performance to push you into the sportier car class. The transmission, which shifts five gears with precision, is great for the engine in city and suburban driving, and we really missed a sixth gear for highway driving. Hence, the diesel has quite a lot of fluctuations in the measured consumption.

It was from 5,5 to seven liters per 100 kilometers. The higher fuel consumption, of course, is due to the fact that we mainly drove on the highway. The overall average for the test was 6,4 liters, which is an average result. Interesting was the consumption on our standard lap, where we try to put the car as realistically as possible on the average daily cycle of use, since it was a decent 4,9 liters. After all this, we can say that if you drive the Captur a little more carefully, then on this engine it will be possible to drive a good five liters, and when driving on the highway, the consumption is unlikely to fall below six liters, even if you regularly monitor everything. an instruction for economical driving.

At just under 14k for the base model with a turbo diesel, you can say it's not overpriced, but anyway, you get a well-equipped Captur (Dynamique line) as a test model, for a little under 18k with discounts.

In terms of value, eye-catching 17-inch wheels are a big deal, but anyone who is willing to sacrifice a little money for a dynamic and sporty look will certainly be fine with such equipment, as the car is real eye candy.

Driving performance was also pleasantly surprised. During the tests, it was applied in such a way that we could drive it in the safe driving center in Vransko, where we tested with summer tires how it works on simulated icy or snowy surfaces. Electronic controls and controls ensured that the car, despite the shoes unsuitable for such a base, slipped only when we significantly exceeded the speed. So a big plus for safety!

We have three more things to praise for: removable and washable covers that will be most appreciated by those who carry children with them, a movable rear bench that makes the trunk flexible and very pleasantly transparent, and a useful infotainment system that also has good navigation.

In modern terms, we can say that this is a multitasking machine. There is no SUV, but it will take you to some garden or summer cottage in the vineyard without any problems, even along a less well-maintained trolley track, rubble or flooded road. Then those 20 centimeters of distance from the floor to the belly of the car will come in handy.
