Short test: Seat Arona Xcellence 1.0 TSI (85 kW)

The Arona is still fresh, although not the least of all competitors in its class. But still: in the comparative test, we found that in the tough competition, seven more participants securely won. Okay, not among them was the Hyundai Kone, which was in the process of entering the market at the time, but the win was still well deserved.

In this comparison test, the Arona was equipped with the same engine as this test (which is great because this time we were able to drive a lot more kilometers with such a motorized Arona than in the comparison test), but this time with the Xcellence Label. which means a fairly rich standard equipment. Several extras raised the price of the test Arona from the base (for Xcellence) 19 to 23 thousand. And for this money, we expect a lot from the car. Is that what Arona also offers?

Yes. The infotainment system is perfect, the seats are top notch, the ergonomics are great too. The trunk is enough, the visibility behind the wheel is very good, the seats are excellent. And taking into account the external dimensions of the internal space, there is also enough. In addition to the aforementioned surcharges, there are also assistance systems (safety and comfort).

A good choice is a three-cylinder liter engine. It's lively enough yet pleasantly fuel efficient, the six-speed manual is nice to use (but you'd prefer a dual-clutch DSG), but you need shorter clutch travel. The steering is accurate enough, but the chassis is set quite rigidly, so you can (due to a pleasant position on the road) crash into the passenger compartment when pushing from a bad road.

Enough about the price? If you're looking for an interestingly designed, otherwise correct, driver-friendly and roomy little crossover on the outside without expecting any overkill on the inside, then yes.

evaluation

  • The Arona offers more than the interior in terms of design, and with this engine it sits at the top of an offering in its class.

We praise and reproach

a little barren inside

clutch pedal travel too long
