Crime puzzles or detective board games

Mysterious crimes, tangled evidence, trails that lead nowhere, silent witnesses - this is the daily bread of every detective. How does it look on the board?

Anna Polkowska / BoardGameGirl.pl

Joanna Khmelevskaya, Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie are my faithful companions in my book journeys along the roads of various crimes. I was very fond of reading about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Mr. Poirot and various detectives Khmelevskaya. However, today more often than a detective on the pages of a book, I sit down at a board story and try to solve no less fascinating puzzles than those from The Hound of the Baskervilles!

The Detective is a great example of modern media and a well-known story of a detective who is faced with a seemingly unsolvable mystery. An internet connection is required to play, as some leads are on a dedicated page. However, instead of spoiling the analog pleasure, it gives the game an exceptional authenticity. The Detective: LA Crimes add-on is also available in stores, containing a whole set of new secrets. This is worth keeping in mind when you receive them from the base box!

Sherlock Holmes: The consulting detective is the opposite of the aforementioned detective. We play the role of a Baker Street genius who solves truly terrifying puzzles using classic investigative techniques - he analyzes letters, newspapers, interrogates witnesses and visits crime scenes. Everything is based on a book of investigations in which we follow various paragraphs, checking evidence and competing against time, measured by the number of steps we have taken. The amazing atmosphere of the game and the absolutely highest level of editing and editing of the Polish text put Advisory Detective at the forefront of detective games.

On the other hand, Stories of TIME is reminiscent of various sci-fi films. In this game, we travel through time, often playing parts of the same investigation multiple times. It's a bit like watching a movie and recognizing the ending, going back to the beginning and changing the characters' decisions. Very innovative mechanics, hundreds of thousands of copies sold, many additional scenarios - TIME Stories is a real gem for fans of deductive games. Attention! Some scenarios are definitely not for younger board game players!

Since we're talking to younger players, I can in all good conscience recommend another game for kids: Detective Music Box on the Trail. This is a game based on the popular series by Grzegorz Kasdepke. It was developed by the famous Rainer Knizia, one of the most popular and prolific game developers in the world. This is a very simple game that combines elements of memo and risk assessment. It is up to us whether we go on a further search for the missing things, risking an encounter with the dangerous Mr. Mitek, or let us go, risking our friends snatching the loot from under our noses!

If you love the story of Jack the Ripper, be sure to check out Letters from Whitechapel, the story of the hunt for this monstrous killer. If you want to take a closer look at the title, watch my short video review of this game. In Letters, one player plays the role of Cuba stalking the streets, while the others play the role of the cops trying to catch him. Playing them requires the skill of logical thinking, the ability to draw conclusions and predict the opponent's moves. Cuba, in turn, must carefully spread false trails and hunt for its victims so that justice does not reach him. A sea of emotions, and the five of us play great. Try it!

Finally, I will propose a game similar in concept to Letters from Whitechapel, but fundamentally different. Mr. Speech Jack, a classic two-player deduction-detective puzzle game in which one player takes on the role of the Ripper and the other tries to figure out who the culprit is before he escapes the city. mr. Jack has been on the bestseller lists for years.
