Xenon Life

Xenon bulbs emit brighter light than halogen bulbs with less energy consumption.. Another advantage of them is high strengthalthough, like traditional light bulbs, they wear out over time. The difference is significant - the lifetime of halogens is usually 350–550 hours, and the lifetime of xenon is 2000–2500 hours. This means that a set of gas discharge lamps should be enough for 70-150 thousand. km, that is, 4-5 years of operation. These are, of course, averages much depends on the quality of the light sources, external factors and the way of use. Manufacturers are constantly working to improve their products. For example, Xenarc Ultra Life Osram lamps have a 10-year warranty, so they should last up to 10 XNUMX. km.

Changing the color of light - what does it mean?

Unlike halogens, which burn out suddenly and without warning, xenons send a series of signals that their lives are ending. The most common sign that it's time for a replacement is simply change the color and brightness of the emitted light... The lamps gradually begin to glow fainter and fainter, until the resulting beam acquires a purplish pink color. Interestingly, black spots can appear on worn headlights! Even if symptoms only affect one headlamp, you should expect them to appear in another headlamp soon. To avoid differences in the color of the emitted light, xenon, like other head light bulbs, we always exchange pairs.

How to extend the life of xenon

The lifespan of a xenon lamp is greatly influenced by the way it is used and the environment. Lamps do not like high and low temperatures or shock. Therefore, it is recommended that you park your car in a garage and avoid driving on bumpy roads, potholed roads, and gravel. The xenon life is also reduced by frequent switching on and off.. If the car has daytime running lights, they should be used in good visibility - xenon, used only at night, and in bad weather will last much longer.

Replacing xenon bulbs

Necessary before replacement buying a suitable lamp. There are various xenon models on the market, marked with the letter D and a number. D1, D3 and D5 are lamps with a built-in igniter, and D2 and D4 are without an igniter. Lens lamps are additionally marked with the letter S (for example, D1S, D2S), and reflectors with the letter R (D3R, D2R). If in doubt which filament to choose, it is best to remove the old lamp and check the code printed on the case.

Unfortunately, the cost of the xenon kit is not low.. A set of cheaper burners from well-known brands such as Osram or Philips costs around PLN 250-450. This is partly offset by a longer service life than halogen lamps. We do not recommend using cheap substitutes - they are usually short-lived and may even lead to inverter failure. Unfortunately a visit to the workshop often needs to be added to the price of the lamps themselves... On startup, the igniter generates a 20 watt pulse that can kill! Self-replacement is possible after turning off the ignition and disconnecting the battery, the main thing is that access to the lamps is not difficult. However, manufacturers recommend replacing the xenons at a specialized workshop to ensure that the service is carried out correctly.
