Who let the Dogs Out? Nissan Australia is releasing a Dog Pack for dog protection for new and old Qashqai, X-Trail and Patrol SUVs.

One dog-friendly accessory is a ramp that will help your dog avoid injury when getting in and out of the cargo area.

In recent years, much attention has been paid to the safety of vehicle passengers, especially young children.

But what about the safety of our furry friends? Don't our precious dogs deserve protection too?

Luckily, a number of automakers have taken this into account and released dog packs for some models, the latest being Nissan.

The Nissan Dog Pack includes a range of car accessories designed to keep your best friend safe while you drive.

Depending on the model, the Dog Pack includes a rear protective mat or tray, reflective lip protection, an organizer in the cargo area above the seat, an all-terrain dog bed, and a four-piece travel kit for your pampered pet. Includes bowl, leash, trash bag holder and reusable food bag.

In addition to the dog kit, there are other accessories that will make your dog happy on the road.

To prevent possible injury to the joints or bones that can occur when a puppy jumps out of or into the trunk, there is a ramp that extends 1.6 meters from the edge of the trunk to the ground, making it easier to get in and out of the cargo area. The ramp folds down to fit in the cargo area or under the seat.

Another option is a cargo barrier that separates the cab from the cargo area so your dog stays in one place while you drive.

For now, the Dog Pack and accessories are limited to the Qashqai, X-Trail and Patrol SUVs, but Nissan Australia says the pet pack items can be purchased individually for the dealer to tailor to another vehicle.

Nissan says they can be ordered when purchasing a vehicle, or ordered as accessories after purchase from Nissan dealers.

Buyers can simply choose a dog pack or add any accessories for a dog-friendly seat in the car.

The price varies depending on the size of the dog (small/medium or large). The Dog Pack order alone costs $339 for a small/medium dog and $353 for a large dog.

If you add a ramp to the Dog Pack it's $471 and $485 respectively, and if you just add a cargo barrier to the Dog Pack it's $1038 and $1052.

Adding a ramp and cargo rail to the Dog Pack brings the price up to $1201 (small/medium) and $1212 (large).

Nissan Australia Managing Director Adam Paterson said the new accessories allow owners to take their furry kids safely with them.

“For many of us, our pets are part of the family and it's now easier than ever to take your dog with you on your next trip, whether it's to a local park or across the country. ," He said.

Other brands that sell dog accessories to varying degrees in Australia include Volvo, Skoda and Subaru, while most major retailers of car parts and accessories sell these products.
