Where to go with a camper in winter?

Traveling in a campervan is not cheap. The lion's share of the budget goes to fuel, followed by campsite fees. But the costs don't stop there. If you don't have a camper, you'll need to add the cost of renting a car. Then a two-week summer trip to the Polish coast may turn out to be more expensive than an all-inclusive holiday in Turkey.

However, in winter the price ratio changes and in many cases traveling by camper means significant savings. Firstly, it is much cheaper to rent vehicles than to rent campsites.

You can drive your camper all year round around the world. However, if you have limited time or fuel costs for your trip, you can always fly to your destination and rent a camper right there. Plus, it's cheaper due to winter rates.

You need to prepare for winter travel.

Nobody knows for what purpose they were built. Even their dating is not precise. Nuraghes, as we speak of them, are stone towers, probably built between 1500 and 500 BC. They were built without mortar over the altars. Therefore, they must have had religious functions. They may also have been used for defense. Sometimes villages were built around them, consisting of round stone houses, the plan reminiscent of the Neolithic settlements on the Orkney Islands. The most interesting and best preserved village of Su Nuraxi is located near Barumini.

Visiting all the nuraghi is quite a difficult task. Archaeologists counted them about seven thousand. However, if you enjoy a culinary challenge, you should definitely try casa marzu. This name refers to sheep's cheese made from cheese fly larvae. Bon appetit!

...and not like in the picture! Because artists of the highest caliber regularly come to the Taormina area in Sicily in search of inspiration. It all started in 1863, when the equally unknown Otto Geleng arrived in an unknown town. He arrived and could not leave behind extraordinary views - Byzantine streets, medieval churches, the ruins of a Greek theater. He began to draw the city, the coast, on which Etna casts the ominous shadow. A few years later, when he showed his paintings at an exhibition in Paris, he was accused of... a vivid imagination. Because such beautiful places cannot actually exist! However, soon the talent and words of Klimt, Dali and other painting celebrities convinced non-believers that unimaginable beauty really exists. In Taormina.

Route: Exmouth - Broome

Camper rental: 12 days from AUD 2000.

The idea of traveling to Australia may seem abstract at first glance. Our winter falls during the Australian summer, so this is the best time to travel the sacred Aboriginal trail, the Warlu Way. According to Aboriginal myths, at the beginning of the world in the Dreamtime, the snake Warlu emerged from the sea. He began to slide across the hot sun-baked earth, leaving behind fabulous landscapes.

From the get-go in Exmouth, it's worth spending a few days diving in the waters of Ningaloo Marine Park. In Onslow, whether you're a night owl who prefers to watch sunsets or a morning person drawn to sunrises, you can always be sure that both will be happening above the water's surface. In Karijini National Park, streams gurgle in gorges and water flows in waterfalls. This is one of the most beautiful places left by the Varlu snake. Along the 2480 kilometer route, prepare to experience Australia's fascinating nature and indigenous culture up close.

Destroy the stereotype that only the richest can afford a holiday in Switzerland. In Zermatt, prices do not differ significantly from prices in Italian or French resorts. You can be sure that you are in an ecological and ski paradise. The city has a complete ban on driving cars with internal combustion engines. The ski lifts can be reached either by electric bus or by horse-drawn carriage. Here again the problem arises: which slope to go on. I recommend starting your ski adventure at the Klein Matterhorn glacier (3883 m above sea level), which can be reached by the world's highest cable car!

You won't have to look far for places to park your mobile home. In Charnaya Gora, a campsite with free electricity is located right on the slope. You will not pay anything for your stay and connection at the ski resort Kotelnica Bialczańska in Bialka Tatrzanska. In the center “Two Valleys Muszyna - Wierchomlya”, in addition to free electricity, caravanners can use hotel toilets. Another winter campsite is located in the center of Karpacz, and about 3 km from the nearest slope you will spend the night at the Camp66 camping site in Scenie near Karpacz. Unfortunately, quality comes at a price. Most winter campsites offer basic caravan infrastructure.

Camping Bystrina, bystrinaresort.sk

Slovak resorts have been fighting for Polish tourists for many years. And you must admit, they have something to seduce you with. First of all, they are close. You can even come here for a few days to ski during the day and recover in the evening in hotels or in the pools of thermal water parks. Almost directly on the border with Poland is the Oravice camp, inexpensive and ideally located - right next to the ski lift - just a few steps from the Meander water park.

If you have a little more time, consider a trip to the Demanovska Valley. The largest ski resort in Slovakia and one of the best in Central Europe was built here. There are no problems with placement of any level. There is also a year-round three-star camp “Bystrina”.

Accommodation: Dunajska Streda Thermal Park, www.thermalpark.sk.

The Dunajska Streda Thermal Park offers most of the activities in the summer, but there is plenty to do in the winter as well. Outdoor thermal pools, indoor mini-water park, extensive sauna, massages... If you don't speak foreign languages, you'll feel right at home here - the staff definitely prefer to speak Polish rather than English. An adult will pay 10 euros for accommodation, the cost of installing a camper is 6,5 euros, and the electricity tariff is 4 euros. The price of your stay includes a ticket to the Thermal Park. Some tourists prefer to park their campervan in the large parking lot in front of the entire complex. If we can afford independence from electricity and water, why not?

Accommodation: Camping Alexa, Chłapowo, www.alexa.gda.pl

Chlapowo, on the Polish coast, has an atmosphere that is at least sleepy in the off-season - an ideal destination for people seeking peace and quiet. You won't see a single living soul on the hiking or cycling routes, and you won't have to fight for space on the beach. However, if you want to get back to civilization, we recommend a trip to the Hel Peninsula. Visit the seal farm, visit the fishermen's church in Jurata and create your own ranking of the best fish soup on the coast!

Accommodation: parking P2d, www.valthoparc.fr.

At Les Trois Vallées, which means "The Three Valleys" in French, you can ski all day on the new slopes without taking your skis out. The resort, located in the Vanoise National Park in Savoie, boasts the longest total length of ski slopes in the world. It is also a truly beautiful region, located between two impressive glaciers. Add sunny weather and a mild climate, and you have the recipe for the perfect winter holiday. In the heart of Val Thorens there is a caravan park with access to toilets, electricity and water. For 7 days you will pay 182 euros. Expensive? No, if you take into account the location of the campsite - right under the ski slopes. You can't come any closer!
