Kitchen sink - which one to choose and what to look for when choosing?

A sink is an indispensable piece of equipment that no kitchen can do without. In addition to its practical functions, it is also an important part of the interior of this room. Which sink should you choose to guarantee the right amount of space and still fit in with the overall style of the interior? We advise!

Which sink to choose for the kitchen? What to look for?

Before you decide to buy a sink, ask yourself how many bowls should be in it. Single, double or maybe triple? If you need to wash dishes every day, especially after a large number of households, a multi-chamber model or a model with a built-in dryer (such as a one and a half sink, i.e. with one larger bowl and another smaller one with a Maxen Matias dehumidifier) is well suited.

However, if you live alone or have a dishwasher and the sink is mainly used for washing fruits and vegetables and pouring water for cooking, the best choice is a single-chamber small kitchen sink, such as the vidaXL handmade kitchen. sink.

It is also worth paying attention to the color that should match the overall design of your kitchen - the most popular sink colors are very versatile. Black, white, silver - each of them can be matched to the color of household appliances, walls or furniture.

As far as sizes go, make sure the model you buy will fit your kitchen countertop. Here you should take into account, among other things, the diameter of the mixer and drain, as well as the width and length of the entire sink. A few extra millimeters are enough to prevent the sink from fitting into the prepared hole in the countertop.

Kitchen sink - what to buy?

A notable addition to the sink is the drain strainer. This inconspicuous element can keep pipes from becoming clogged in the future, and it will make it easier for you to clean the sink from food debris that gets into it when washing or soaking dishes. There are also sinks on the market equipped with a mesh filter already by the manufacturer.

In order for your sink to be complete, of course, you also need the right faucet. You can buy a ready-made set or choose a separate model that suits you perfectly, paying attention to its compatibility with the sink. Faucets can also have different shapes and sizes, and even colors, which, in combination with a designer sink, will attract the eyes of visiting guests.

An interesting addition is the droppers, which, when inserted into the sink, create an additional level in the chamber, on which even a pan can be placed. Vegetable and fruit graters are also becoming more and more popular.

Which sink to choose - steel or granite?

Most often, sinks are made of steel or granite. The former are known for their easy cleaning. They can be washed with various detergents without the risk of damage. The advantage of steel sinks is also resistance to high temperatures and their quick change. Moreover, this material will withstand contact even with very sharp objects such as freshly sharpened knives or scissors, even if they unfortunately fall on it. The disadvantage of this material, however, is the formation of stains after contact with water, although this can be avoided by choosing a suitable steel texture (for example, satin).

The second most frequently chosen material is the aforementioned granite. The sink from it is often called stone, which is associated with its characteristic appearance. This type of sink has the largest selection of colors and is therefore recommended for designer kitchens. Like a steel sink, it is very resistant to damage and high temperature fluctuations - even more than its "competitor". The downside, however, is the fact that this material needs more care than steel and needs to be cleaned every day using special products.

What if not steel and granite? Other types of sinks

In addition to steel and granite, sinks made of other materials are available on the market. Among others there are ceramic, glass, mineral and plastic. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages, so before choosing, you should familiarize yourself with the brief characteristics of all types of sinks.

  • Ceramic sink - very resistant to damage and high temperatures. It is made of fired clay and is gaining more and more popularity due to its modern look. It requires proper, regular cleaning, since careless handling can tear off the enamel, which will negatively affect the aesthetic value of the product.
  • The glass sink is designer and fits many styles in the kitchen. Thanks to the glass cover, the user has the opportunity to purchase a sink with patterns and motifs of their choice. However, it is not entirely made of glass, as it is merely a coating applied to a steel or granite sink to enhance its appearance. However, it is much less resistant to damage, a sharp drop of a hard or sharp element can cause the glass to break.
  • A stone sink is ideal for a loft-style interior, heavy and modern, very resistant to mechanical damage. This makes it possible to create some kind of "oneness" with the countertop when it is made of the same material.

As you can see, sinks can be different, so it's worth considering which one will meet your expectations. Regardless of the material and whether it should be round or square – thanks to the wide range you will find the right model to suit your kitchen.
