Culture on the road. Is this observed in Poland?

Culture on the road. Is this observed in Poland? Forcing priority, overtaking third place, parking on lawns or blocking sidewalks are still common on the streets.

Internet portals are full of videos about how pirates drive around Russia or Ukraine. In Poland, despite the fact that every year is getting better, many drivers forget about cultural driving and parking in designated areas. According to the drivers we interviewed, the driving culture in Poland is getting better and better. We drive more carefully, but we are still far from the Germans, Norwegians or Swedes.

They park wherever they fall

We have reported many times about car parking, for example in the center of Tarnobrzeg. The sidewalks are constantly clogged with cars. The municipal police fines, but still does not help.

About a dozen meters from our office, on Slovak Street, we could see that the fines imposed by the city guards were not working. Three cars occupied the entire width of the sidewalk and actually blocked the way for pedestrians.

The situation is similar on Kochanowski Street, as well as on the neighboring streets of the Przybisle manor, where you need to slalom past cars parked on the sidewalks. Why? In the center of Tarnobrzeg it is difficult to find a place to park your car even in the morning. Therefore, drivers use every free space when driving on sidewalks and lawns. Parking a car on the pavement is subject to a fine of PLN 100 and one demerit point.

“Transport safety offenses are at the top of our service statistics,” says Robert Kendziora, commander of the city guard in Tarnobrzeg. – Whenever drivers systematically break the rules, they are fined. Most often, drivers park on lawns or block sidewalks.

Expert Opinion

- As for the culture of driving, it all depends on the driver himself. There are those who remember all road users, but there are also drivers for whom only their own personality is important. The police can only remind about the rules of safe driving, as well as impose fines or instructions, says Commissioner Paweł Mendlar, spokesman for the Voivodeship Police Department in Rzeszów.
