Lamborghini Huracán STO, racing supercar adapted for street traffic.

We take a look at the 2021 Lamborghini Huracán STO, a 10-horsepower, 5.2-liter V640 supercar for road use that incorporates technology from the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO and GT EVO track versions.

Lamborghini has always produced fast and spectacular cars. But it is not always safe and reliable. The Italian house had a bad reputation for many years, its cars every now and then had to pass through a mechanical workshop. But Lamborghini has greatly improved technology, safety and reliability. And the 2021 Lamborghini Huracan STO is a prime example of these achievements.

had the opportunity to test the STO (Super Trofeo Omologata) in New York, both in the city, on the highway, and on winding secondary roads. super car with Base price $327,838..

The first thing that catches the eye in a supercar like the Huracán STO is, of course, its Exterior design. They highlight your central shark fin, which ends perpendicular to the huge rear wing. This spoiler has three possible positions, although changing from one to the other is a manual process that must be done with a key. Don't imagine an automatic spoiler that goes up when you reach a certain speed.

Also new is the inclusion carbon fiber in most of the body (in 75% of its exterior panels), with which you can lighten the car, which weighs 2,900 pounds, which is even 100 pounds less than the 2019 Huracan Performante.

From the race track to the street

But to understand the performance of this supercar, we need to talk about the racing model it was inspired from: Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO and its Huracan GT3 EVO version drag racing team Lamborghini Squadra Kors.

And we have to talk about the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO and the track Huracán GT3 EVO because this Huracán STO is a "legal" adaptation of those cars. Obviously there are a lot of differences: the competition gearbox, the empty cabin, the increased safety, the suspension... in the racing version that won three years in the 24 Hours of Daytona. But both cars share a powerful naturally aspirated 10-liter V5.3 engine that produces 640 horsepower in the street version. with a torque of 565 Nm at 6,500 rpm.

This power turns the Lamborghini Huracan STO into an arrow: 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds (from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 9 seconds) and top speed 192 mph (310 km/h).

But what's most amazing is the control you feel at full throttle. In cars of this type, even much less powerful ones, the rear of the car often "jumps" at the first moment of maximum acceleration. Especially if it is a rear-wheel drive car of the service station type. But Lamborghini has improved the traction control and stability of the Huracán STO to the point that, at least on dry roads, we never noticed the slightest lack of control over the car..

In addition, its stopping power is also surprising, 60 mph to zero in 30 meters. From 120 mph to zero in 110 meters. Here you can say that we are driving a racing car with Brembo CCM-R brakes.

Comfortable cabin for day trips

The 2021 Lamborghini Huracán STO, with all units already sold and orders for the 2022 version being accepted, is not a comfortable vehicle for everyday use or travel. Firstly, it is so low that getting in and out of the car is not easy, especially if you park at the curb. But above all, there is so little space for even the smallest things (water bottles, wallet, backpack, mobile phones…) that it is impractical. And for multi-day trips, there is simply no trunk. In front, under the hood, the air intakes take up almost the entire space, which is reduced to a hole to leave the helmet (as intended).

Said that, sto not it's an uncomfortable car. The seats are comfortable, nice materials, detailed finishes. In terms of comfort, Lamborghini has also tried to create a car that will be comfortable for a trip of several hours.

How could it be otherwise, the Italian brand has also incorporated technologies in driving and entertainment systems, which are controlled from a central touch screen, easily accessible to the driver or passenger. In addition, the steering wheel display is included with all information about handling, performance, etc.

There is a button at the bottom of the steering wheel to change the driving mode.. The basic mode is STO, in which the vehicle is driven with automatic gear changes and automatic engine stop in the parking lot. The Trofeo and Pioggia modes are manual - 7 speeds that are changed with paddles on the steering wheel - the former boosts performance (higher engine revs, stiffer suspension to always drive on dry ground) and the latter boosts traction control for driving in the rain.

And we're saving the cost of fuel for last, because if anyone wants to buy this car, we don't think they'll worry too much about gas. but officially The Lamborghini Huracán STO gets 13 mpg city, 18 mpg highway and 15 mpg combined.
