Freelander successor is impressive

Based on the already well-known Evoque design methodology, the Discovery Sport is the Freelander's successor to British SUV specialists Land Rover. Like its comfort-focused predecessor, the car builds on the brand's classic values - it's more off-road than most of its direct competitors, rugged, personalized and gives the driver that special sense of security and peace that distinguishes the company's products. Land Rover among other offerings on the market. To this, however, one more valuable quality should be added, which the Discovery Sport significantly exceeds its predecessor: in addition to the large space on the comfortable seats in the cabin, the car boasts one of the largest and most practical trunks. category. Moreover - despite his modest duty, the Briton has a third row of seats that easily fold and lower into the floor of the cargo compartment.

A comfortable companion in everyday life

The atmosphere in the interior is typical of the brand - the interior will not surprise loyal Land Rover fans, the workmanship leaves a good impression, and depending on the level of performance, the equipment ranges from rich to outright extravagant. Comfort is a leading factor when it comes to the performance of the car on the road - the handling of bumps is significantly better than the Evoque, and the control is no less precise. The steering system has been tuned to provide a smooth ride on the highway and precise enough control on roads with a lot of turns. Calm, confident, but not boring - Discovery Sport is a typical British by nature, it is fun to drive without straining.

The standard ZF 9HP48 automatic transmission shifts nine gears softly, smoothly and almost imperceptibly, making the most of the 180 hp 430-litre turbodiesel that delivers more than decent traction with a maximum of XNUMX Nm of torque – although the vehicle’s considerable weight is not a prerequisite for memorable good dynamic characteristics. With a mixed driving cycle, the average fuel consumption is about nine liters per hundred kilometers - a good, but not brilliant achievement.

Typical brand traffic

What has traditionally set Land Rover apart from most competitors on the market is its solid ability to handle difficult situations – and this is exactly the case with the Discovery Sport. The well-proven Terrain Response system allows the driver to quickly and easily select between different modes of operation of the car, and in off-road conditions the car is capable of much more than one would expect from a representative of its segment.
