Earlier this year, several automakers around the world were forced to temporarily stop production due to supply chain issues. They even saw the need to drop features that were previously standard on some vehicles due to the lack of these components.

Jaguar Land Rover is no exception.

The Land Rover Nitra plant in Slovakia produces the seven-seater Defender and Discovery. This is the latest Jaguar Land Rover plant to suffer from a chip shortage.

In early 2021, Jaguar Land Rover stopped its production lines at Castle Bromwich and Halewood in the UK. This affected the production of the Jaguar XE, XF and F-Type, as well as the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.

Automaker did not name the timing of the resumption of the work of the plant. The annual production capacity of the plant in Slovakia is 150,000 units. Due to the production shutdown, Land Rover Defender delivery times are expected to increase significantly.

Currently, the waiting period for an SUV is almost a year.

Speaking of the chip crisis earlier this year, Jaguar Land Rover chief executive Thierry Bolloré said the car company is looking to source electrical components directly from the manufacturer.. However, these efforts have been undermined by the global chip crisis.

During last year's pandemic, the demand for personal electronics increased significantly. This has led to a huge demand for chips, causing chip manufacturers to divert their resources to semiconductor manufacturing by the electronics industry. After the recovery of the economy around the world, the automotive industry began to face a shortage of semiconductors.
