Legendary Cars - Lamborghini Miura - Sports Cars

Considered the sexiest car in the world, the Miura has changed the world of supercars.

"There will be good advertising, but we won't sell more than 50." Bertone luckily he was wrong and Ferruccio Lamborghini he saw us well. Lamborghini Miura changed the world of supercars, it was annoying Ferrari and laid the foundation for a worldwide successful company.

The noise he caused everything 1966 Geneva Motor Show it was unprecedented: the Lamborghini Miura suddenly aged all supercars. So short, meandering, slender; with these round, "pop-up" headlights and short tail, it remains one of the most harmonious lines in the automotive world.

On the other hand, the pencil belonged to a young man. Marcello Gandinirecruited by Bertone after the hole left Giugiaro... It took him only four months to create Miura. The name, on the other hand, comes from Don Eduardo Miura Fernandez, famous breeder of fighting bulls. Why bulls? Because Ferruccio Lamborghini was from the sign of Taurus.

The success of this car was such that after a few months the baby House of Sant'Agata Bolognese  it was identified as a direct competitor to the already giant Ferrari. Not only that: al Monaco Grand Prix 1966A few months after the presentation, Miura was chosen as the Pace Car.

GOOD AND BAD

Ferruccio Lamborghini, unlike Ferrari, was not interested in racing: he was only interested in construction. beautiful, eye-catching sports cars, but for everyday driving. That didn't stop Miura project technicians Gian Paolo Dallar and Paolo Stanzani from adopting the typical mid-engined, rear-wheel drive race car layout.

The engine was one 12-liter V3,9 installed transversely (in practice "crooked" in comparison with the classic longitudinal arrangement). This made it more compact but also less manageable.

First version, Miura P400, 360 hp (Ferrari 365 GTB4 Daytona had 340). It was fast, but difficult to drive, mainly because it sold quickly and brought many disadvantages with it.

In speed the face brightened a lot due to the lift generated by its design, the problem is solved (partially) in later models. The chassis, thin and lacking torsional rigidity, caused the car to twist when cornering and accelerating, another element that made driving difficult. GThen they were small and the braking was not very strong.

Added to this are lubrication defects (caused by oil displacement in the crankcase when cornering).

In short, the Lamborghini Miura was and remains a great car, but like all supercars of all eras, it is full of defects.

In subsequent years, versions were introduced to the market P400S (with increased power to 370 hp and some cosmetic improvements) e P400SV, with a capacity of 380 h.p. and changes to the bodywork (in addition to the larger rear tires).
