Legendary Cars - Vector W8 - Auto Sportive

In the 80s and 90s, so many supercars were produced, designed and manufactured that it is hard to believe. Those were years of economic prosperity and many were chasing the dream of building their own sports car. This is the case of the Vector Motors, American automaker from Wilmington (California) founded in 1978. The company closed in the early 90s, but between 1989 and 1993 built about twenty cars called Vector W8, and that cars.

THE VECTOR W8

La Vector W8 it inspires fear even when stationary: it is low, wide and pointed. It almost looks like one shark, there are so many air intakes and its line is so tapered. It is a 2-seater coupe with a mid-engine and rear-wheel drive. It was anything but an improvised experiment: the Vector W8 was built with a superfine technique and boasted the best technological solutions of the time.

Just to name one: the aluminum monocoque frame was made with aerospace technology and the aerodynamics were so studied that the pre-series model (with a 1.200 hp engine) reached 389 km / h.

The Vector W8 engine is a 5735cc Chevrolet VXNUMX with an aluminum block and, as if that weren't enough, supercharged by two turbines. The maximum power is 650 CV and 5700 weights, while the pair is of 880 monstrous Nm. A monster as sacred as the Ferrari F40 (1987 car) produced "only" 478 HP and 577 Nm ...

The W8 is not only a monstrously fast car (the car goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 4 seconds and reaches a peak of 350 km / h), the mechanics are also very refined.

The rear suspension layout is in fact a DeDion axle (very popular on Alfa Romeo sports cars and racing cars of those years), an interesting technical solution. The only out of tune detail (an American, if you like) is the 3-speed automatic gearbox. Let's say that a manual would have been welcome, but this is not enough to undermine the charm of this incredible machine.

The car was marketed in 1990 at a disproportionate price of $ 448.000 and its valuation today is over 200.000 euros.
