Test drive Lamborghini Huracan EVO

The speed is just approaching 200 km / h, and we are already starting to slow down. Driving a Huracan EVO for an instructor is one torment

“This is not just an update. In fact, EVO is a new generation of our junior supercar ”, - Konstantin Sychev, the head of Lamborghini in Eastern Europe, repeated this phrase several times in the boxes of Moscow Raceway.

The Italians have almost completely shaken up the technical stuffing of the car, but in the world of supercars, where appearance is as important as tenths of a second in acceleration to 100 km / h, the arguments in favor of a new generation no longer sound so convincing. Externally, the EVO differs from the pre-reform Huracan only by strokes in the plumage, and even those appeared here solely for technical reasons. For example, a new rear diffuser, coupled with a duck-tail on the bonnet lip, provides up to six times more downforce on the rear axle.

And this is very handy, because the Huracan EVO's motor is also not the same as before. It's still a V10, but borrowed from the insane Huracan Performante. With shortened intake and exhaust tracts and a reconfigured control unit, it is 30 horsepower more powerful than the previous one and produces a maximum of 640 horsepower.

But this is far from the most important figure that you need to know about a new engine. 6 minutes 52,01 seconds - this is how much it took the Huracan Performante to drive the famous Nordschleife. Ahead is only the older brother of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ (6: 44.97), as well as a couple from the Chinese electric car NextEV Nio EP9 (6: 45.90) and the prototype Radical SR8LM (6: 48.00), which are even conditionally difficult to consider as serial road cars.

And if you keep in mind the fact that, in addition to the new aerodynamic tail, the Huracan EVO received a fully-controlled chassis with swivel rear wheels, then it's even difficult to imagine what this beast is really capable of in extreme modes. But we seem to have a chance not only to dream up, but even to try to find this very limit.

Yes, Volokolamsk is not Adenau, and Moscow Raceway is far from Nürburgring, but the track is still not bad. Especially in the longest configuration we have at our disposal. Here you will have high-speed arcs with "esks", and slow hairpins with large elevation differences, and two long straight lines where you can accelerate from the heart.

"You will go for the instructor," the words of the race marshal at the safety briefing sobered him like a cold shower. We have two runs of six laps to get the Huracan EVO's harsh temper. After the first warm-up, the instructor on the car in front proposes to immediately switch the car settings from the civil Strada mode to the track Corsa, bypassing the intermediate Sport. Given the tight test time, the proposal seems constructive.

Two clicks on the button on the lower chord of the "steering wheel" - and that's it, now you are practically alone with 640 horsepower. The box is in manual mode, and the shifting is carried out only by huge paddle shifters, and the stabilization is as relaxed as possible.

Even at the slightest touch of the gas pedal, the engine explodes and begins to spin instantly. And he has where: the V10 is so resourceful that the red zone starts after 8500. A separate song is the sound of the exhaust. With an open throttle in the exhaust tract, the motor behind is like an angry Zeus on Olympus. Especially juicy exhaust shoots out when switching.

However, you can feel them here, even if you insert earplugs. Each gear change is like a blow in the back with a sledgehammer (and don't ask how I know about these feelings). Still, the box can handle this in less than 60 milliseconds!

The first fast lap flies in one breath. Then we cool down the brakes and go to the second one. It gets more fun because the instructor picks up the pace. The Huracan makes turns as easy and precise as it’s an extension of you. The steering wheel is not overloaded, but at the same time it is so precise and transparent, as if you feel the curbs with your fingertips. Damn it, even my little sister can handle this hurricane.

We go to the longest straight in the last sector of the MRW. "Gas to the floor!" - shouts the instructor into the radio. I am pushed into a chair, and my face breaks into a smile, but not for long. The speed is just approaching 200 km / h, and we are already starting to slow down - almost 350 m before a sharp left turn. No, driving the Huracan EVO for an instructor is a torment after all.

On the other hand, it's foolish to assume that he doesn't trust the Huracan EVO's braking system. This Lamborghini guy in front of me knows very well that the car will slow down easily, even if we start braking 150 or even 100 meters before the turn. It is rather a matter of trusting me: we are seeing the instructor for the first time. If I were in his place, I would hardly have handed him a car for $ 216 with the words: "Do what you want."
