2023 Lexus RX: Updated SUV with more luxury and F Sport hybrid model

The 2023 Lexus RX, the fifth generation of the model, now looks completely redesigned, from the wheels to the roof rails. The SUV is offered with a new global platform, two brand new trim levels, an accessible digital key, Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 and the Lexus Interface multimedia system.

The luxury crossover segment is a constant battlefield for automakers around the world, and Lexus has been competing in this area for decades. The company's latest achievement is the all-new 2023 Lexus RX, bringing hybrid power and a new level of sophistication to the segment.

Four powertrain options will be available for the new luxury crossover.

The base RX 350 is available in FWD and AWD trim levels with a 2.4L turbocharged inline-four engine producing 275 hp. and 24 mpg. Those who want to consume more gasoline can choose the RX 350h with its 2.5 hp 246-liter four-cylinder all-wheel drive hybrid. Next in line will be the RX 33h+ for the US market, and Lexus is keeping its maps under wraps at this stage.

However, the top of the range is the RX 500h F SPORT Performance, which has been given a long enough name to justify its high status. The top-of-the-line AWD model is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a hybrid transmission that develops a full 367 hp. and 406 lb-ft of torque. Surprisingly, it actually outperforms the base model in fuel economy as well, with about 26 mpg. Big six-piston brakes and 21-inch wheels are par for the course here, along with a reasonably aggressive mesh grille that matches the Lexus design language.

New durable platform

The 2023 Lexus RX will now run on the Toyota GA-K platform. It's a continuation of the long-lived K-platform that once underpinned everything from the Camry to , with the outgoing RX the last K-platform car still in production. The new platform promises a lower center of gravity and better weight distribution for improved handling. The extra rigidity also contributes to refinement, while more cargo space, lower cargo height and more rear passenger legroom for more usability. As a bonus, the new RX weighs 198 pounds over the outgoing model.

Luxurious high-tech interior

Inside, Lexus has seen fit to equip the RX with the prevailing trends. The interior has "multi-color lighting accents" and these days, ambient lighting is taking on a lot of importance. There's also a panoramic glass roof and a head-up display that helps drivers keep their eyes on the road. The 14-inch infotainment screen is available with the latest Lexus Interface software.

Security features included

As expected, the RX comes with a suite of the latest active safety features. There's the usual radar cruise control and lane departure warnings, as well as the usual pre-collision detection system to help with emergency braking. The Advanced Park system also added forward facing parking support and improved support for parallel parking. This is a welcome addition for nervous parking attendants.

Lexus RX 2023 is a great buy

Basically, the 2023 Lexus RX promises to be a comfortable luxury crossover that essentially does what it says on the packaging. The all-new model should bring a number of improvements in terms of usability and comfort, while also keeping the RX up to date with the latest features and trends. Like many Lexus vehicles, the company's offering is particularly attractive to those who want to drive a hybrid. Those attracted to the new RX should talk to a dealer soon, with deliveries expected to begin later in 2022.
