Test drive Lexus RX 450h: with a new face

The Lexus SUV model recently underwent a partial refurbishment and redesigned the front end to reflect the brand's new stylistic language. First impressions of the F Sport version, which is also new to the RX palette.

The third generation Lexus RX is quite popular in most European markets, including ours - it is the brand's second best-selling product in the countries of the Old Continent after the compact CT 200h. To increase public interest and bring the RX closer to the brand's latest design trends, the Lexus team has carried out a massive restyle of its luxury SUV. The main novelty can be seen from afar - the front end has an aggressive grille in the style of the new GS, the headlights also look much more dynamic than before. Customers now have the option to choose between xenon and LED headlights, and a new sports version with the typical F Sport branding has been added to the familiar Business, Executive and President versions. The athletic appearance of the car is further emphasized by a special front end layout, including a modified radiator grille and a lowered sports bumper with a spoiler integrated into its lower part. The 19-inch dark wheels are also a trademark of the F Sport variant, as are optional front and rear transverse shock absorbers that are designed to reduce vibration and create a more dynamic steering feel. Sporty accents also find their place in the interior, where the F Sport features a sports steering wheel, perforated leather upholstery entirely in black headlining and special perforated aluminum pedals.

As for traction, the RX remains true to its proven hybrid system, combining a six-cylinder petrol engine and two electric motors. The driver has a choice between four operating modes - EV, Eco, Normal and Sport, the second of which optimally combines various measures to reduce fuel consumption. The official value of 6,3 liters per 100 km in a combined driving cycle (according to European standard) may not be very close to reality, but objectively speaking, the real average consumption of about nine percent is a very respectable achievement for a gasoline SUV weighing more than two tons and with a power of almost 300 hp Lexus's promise to improve the F Sport's handling is also not in vain - cornering stability is enviable for a two-ton car with a relatively high center of gravity, and body roll is also kept at an impressively low level.
