Lenses for diabetics

Dr Jun Hu of the University of Akron is working on a lens design that can measure blood sugar, which is extremely important for diabetics.

The lenses will detect the glucose level and change color themselves if something abnormal is detected. The color change won't be noticeable to the user, but researchers have developed a smartphone app that uses a photograph of a patient's eye to determine blood sugar levels. The method is much easier than using a glucometer and a constant sting (trendhunter.com).
