Lyon: electric Vélo'V coming in 2020

From 2020, some Vélo'V self-service vehicles offered by Métropole de Lyon will be electric.

If the Lyon metropolis ditched its bonus electric bike project, it will retain its ambition to develop Vélo'V. Local authorities, pioneers in the deployment of a self-service system, are preparing for its development. On the night of June 1, 2018, the current 4000 bikes will be replaced, with the first hybrid models expected to arrive in 2020.

The new market, again entrusted to JC Decaux for 15 years, envisions a lighter Vélo'V than the existing fleet and 1000 additional Vélo'Vs between 2019 and 2020. 80 stations and 2500 additional attachment points. are also announced.

The battery is rented for 7 euros / month.

The first electric Vélo'Vs are not expected yet, as they will not be announced until 2020. By this date, half of them, that is, 2500 copies, will be hybrids. That is, they will be able to work both in classic mode and become electric thanks to the battery, which users can rent for 7 euros per month.

The other side of the coin: These changes will be partially funded by users. From 1 January 2018, the annual subscription will increase from € 25 to € 31 and from € 15 to € 16,5 for students.
