Molygen Motor Protect additive: what is it?

Liquid Moli's active Motor Protect formulation has actually been around for many years. However, as a separate product brand, Molygen Motor Protect was only introduced to the market in 2014. Until that time, a combined product from Liqui Moly was on sale, similar in composition and final effect, but differing in the method of application. The previous engine protection complex consisted of two separate tools:

  • Motor Clean - the composition was used as a flushing agent, poured into the engine before changing the oil to clean the lubrication system;
  • Motor Protect is an active compound that was poured into fresh oil and created a protective layer on friction surfaces.

This composition combines organic molybdenum and active tungsten compounds. Molybdenum is designed to reduce the coefficient of friction and restore the geometry of damaged metal parts, tungsten strengthens the surface layer. A similar effect is immediately included in one of the popular oils: Liqui Moly Molygen New Generation.

How does the additive work?

Additive Liqui Moly Molygen Motor Protect multicomponent. However, the main protection mechanism in it is the effect of surface alloying of metal parts with tungsten, one of the hardest metals in nature. At the same time, in addition to surface hardness, the additive helps to reduce the coefficient of friction. Together, the following positive effects are achieved:

  • partial restoration of friction surfaces that do not have deep damage or critical development;
  • hardening of the surface layer of the metal, due to which the resistance of rubbing surfaces to the formation of scoring and point damage is significantly increased;
  • reduction in the coefficient of friction, which leads to a slight increase in engine response and a decrease in fuel consumption (up to 5%);
  • general extension of engine life.

A bottle of additive with a volume of 500 ml is recommended for use for 5 liters of oil (i.e., the proportion is 1 to 10). A slight deviation from the recommended proportion is allowed, both up and down. The additive is poured into fresh oil once and works for 50 thousand kilometers.

Reviews of motorists

Motorists leave positive feedback in terms of a really noticeable effect of the Motor Protect additive. The most frequently mentioned are engine equalization (noise and vibration reduction) and fuel consumption reduction.

As side effects, there is a decrease in smokiness and an equalization of compression. In some cases, drivers notice an increase in power.

The additive does not increase the ash content of the oil and is compatible, unlike the Liqui Moly Ceratec product from the same company, with lubricants of any viscosity. This means that the Molygen Motor Protect additive can be safely used in modern cars with multi-level catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters in the FAP and DPF systems.

As a negative point, motorists mention the rather high price of the additive. The cost of one bottle reaches 2 thousand rubles. In nominal terms, this is a small expense for processing the motor for such a long period. However, in comparison with other means of a similar purpose, the price really seems high.

Also, conflicting test results on friction machines are posted on the Internet. In some of these tests, the deterioration of the performance of the carrier lubricant after the addition of an additive is clearly detected. However, artificial tests cannot fully reflect the effectiveness of the additive in real operating conditions inside a motor warmed up to operating temperature and running for a long time. And many experts question the expediency of such checks due to their complete inconsistency with the real conditions in the engine crankcase.
