Livewire: Harley's electric motorcycle connects to Electrify America

Harley Davidson and Electrify America have announced a partnership to offer a fast charging solution to future owners of the American brand's first electric motorcycle.

Under the agreement between the two partners, LiveWire owners will receive the equivalent of 500 kWh of free charging at stations Electrify America deployed across North America. The quota will be used from August 2019 to July 2021, that is, within two years from the date of purchase of the electric motorcycle.

Thanks to the combo standard used by Electrify America's fast charging stations, Livewire allows you to charge from 0 to 80% in just 40 minutes. At this stage, the manufacturer has not yet announced the permitted charging power and battery capacity. However, we know the autonomy of this first electric motorcycle called Harley: 225 kilometers in urban settings.

Electrify America, considered one of the largest fast-charging networks in America, is a Volkswagen initiative following a diesel scandal. Electrify America plans to deploy 800 sites and 3.500 charging stations nationwide by December 2021.

Also in Europe?

If Harley's initiative only concerns the US market, it is hoped that it will be replicated in Europe, where Volkswagen is affiliated with the Ionity consortium.

Electrify America's European cousin, Ionity plans to deploy 400 fast charging stations by 2020 across the old continent.
