Lotus Type 130 teased ahead of July announcement: Will EV 'hypercar' take British battler to the big leagues?

"Hypercar" Lotus EV will be presented on July 16

The new Lotus Type 130 will be unveiled on July 16 and the British brand promises that its new EV "hypercar" will be "the most dynamic road car in the company's history."

And given Lotus's proud history of making durable metal (sometimes at the expense of things like comfort or performance), that's a very bold statement.

The Type 130 is not the final name, but rather an indication that only 130 will be sold to customers - it is also the iconic brand's first all-new model in over a decade. And gosh, they're brandishing the Type 130 as an "all-electric hypercar" to be built at the company's plant in Hethel, Norfolk.

Other details are still unknown. But the news that the 71-year-old company is producing an all-new car - the first since the Evora in 2008 - is exciting news, not to mention an electric car set to shake up the supercar elite.

In the meantime, keep an eye on this space. Or, alternatively, watch the teaser video above and get excited.

Does Lotus have what it takes to mix it with the big boys? Tell us in the comments below.
