The best of Tassie Sixes is hard to beat

Hobart driver Ashley Madden is looking to win her second Tassie Sixes Classic title at Hobart International Speedway.

He's fit, he's got a strong car and Ashley Madden thinks he has what it takes to win the Tassie Sixes Classic at Hobart International Speedway on Saturday night.

The problem is, the same can be said for the other 10 riders on one of Tasmania's biggest courses.

Madden, 24, who won the Classic in 2004, goes to hell on Saturday after winning the special race last time.

This makes him one of the favorites for the largest annual Tassie Sixes race outside of the state championship.

To qualify for the Classic again, Madden will have to deal with top local riders like Noel Russell, Dion Menzie, Marcus Cleary, Darren Graham and Dwayne Sonners.

Russell is the driver Madden fears the most.

“He is very difficult to beat, he is very consistent, he has a very good car, a good driver,” Madden said yesterday.

Russell's XR6 Falcon has a power advantage over Madden's Holden-powered Pontiac GP.

“The Falcon engine is a four liter job with an alloy head. It puts out a few kilowatts more than the Holden engine,” Madden said.

“We worked tirelessly to tune the tires and suspension to try and go faster.”

“I will definitely have a chance to win.”

"I have to make sure I get into the top 10 to have a real chance."

"As long as I start with the fast guys, I'm pretty sure I have at least a shot at the podium."

Each driver will compete in two heats of 10 laps to determine positions on the starting grid for the 20 lap final.

With an expected field of more than 25, some riders will miss the cut.

“I like the evenness in the class, no one has a really huge advantage,” Madden said.

“There is camaraderie between everyone, if anyone needs help, everyone is there and we can race on all the tracks across the state.”

Like the Tassie Sixes, the sprint cars will take part in the final round of their national series.
