SUVs and hybrids were the highlight of the month at Auto Expo Delhi, which is held every two years in India.

More than 80 car presentations were held, and the presentation of the Jeep, which made its debut in the 30-year history of the exhibition, was unexpected.

Mahindra's Queensland office is expanding its national network of automotive and agricultural dealers. There is no word yet on whether the Thar will make it to Australia, while the next model to arrive is the Scorpio due in 2017.

Who goes Tar?

Short answer: Jeep built in India. The rugged little U.S. Army vehicle that Mahindra started with decades ago was the start of something big. The Thar is powered by a 2.5 liter diesel engine and got a lot of attention at the show thanks to its many cool features. As with the Jeep in the US, Mahindra designed its Thar for tough driving, and this vehicle shares many design and engineering themes with the American brand.

Mahindra XUV Aero

The Aero is a large, elegant coupe-like car with 158kW/450Nm, 55kW more than the XUV donor's 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel. As with the Hyundai Veloster and earlier Mazda RX-8, the car has three doors, one for the driver, two for passengers, and an interior equipped with an advanced infotainment system. Will it go into production? Depends on the reaction of the public. Judging by the appreciative audience, the show - over 100,000 visitors a day - should.
