Best Used 7 Seater Cars

Sedans, hatchbacks and station wagons are great, but what if you have a big family or lots of friends? If you want to carry six or seven people, regular family cars like the Volkswagen Golf or Ford Mondeo won't be big enough. You need a seven-seat car.

You don't need five kids to buy a seven-seat car. Being able to carry six passengers - lacrosse girls, your buddies from work, your kids' classmates, members of your extended family - is one of the best perks of a big car. To make things easier, we've rounded up the best used seven-seat cars on the market.

1. Land Rover Discovery

Designed for crossing rivers, climbing mountains and towing huge loads through muddy terrain, the Land Rover Discovery is also very popular with families who just need to get from point A to point B in a car that has everything to make life easier.

For starters, this is a quiet cruiser that's just as happy on school races and highways as it is in the Alps or the Sahara. It also has an interior that combines the practicality of a minivan with the comfort of a luxury car. It has plenty of storage space and a deep, wide trunk that will fit all your gear. The two third-row seats have enough room for an adult to sit comfortably for several hours, so you can take friends or family with you on weekends or longer trips.

2. Volvo XC90

Swedish car manufacturer Volvo has always taken safety seriously, and the Volvo XC90 is one of the safest family cars you can buy. It's also one of the quietest and most comfortable cars around, with first-class interiors and premium materials. Few cars are more enjoyable to ride as a passenger, and that's one of the reasons the Volvo XC90 is so popular with large families.

Its all-wheel drive system and good ground clearance give it some off-road ability, but it's on the road that the XC90 really shines. All versions are easy to drive, and there are plug-in hybrid models that provide enough clean, zero-emissions electricity for short trips.

3. Peugeot 5008

Peugeot 5008 is one of the most distinctive seven-seat cars with sharp edges and a futuristic look inside and out. It's a great choice for families thanks to its smooth ride, comfortable seats and quiet engine. There's plenty of room inside, with room for adults in the third row seats, and a huge trunk when traveling in five-seat mode.

Compared to many seven-seat SUVs, the 5008 is a very fuel efficient option with particularly fuel efficient engines and competitive prices. There is also confidence in Peugeot's excellent reputation for reliability, as evidenced by the fact that the brand ranked first among 24 brands in JD Power UK's latest vehicle reliability survey.

4. Citroen Berlingo

The Citroen Berlingo is serious practicality. If its tall, boxy body looks a bit like a van, it's because Citroen does sell van versions of the Berlingo (without rear windows and other features). On a positive note, the passenger version gives you a huge amount of interior space. Seven adults can comfortably fit and you can fit three child seats in the middle row, and sliding rear side doors make it easy to access even in tight parking spaces. There are also 28 internal storage compartments, including some in the roof!

Then there is the boot. In seven-seat mode, it's as big as it is in many midsize hatchbacks. Fold down the rear seats and bingo! You have a van-like space. The good news is that the Berlingo isn't like a van - it's quiet and comfortable, and the huge windows give you (and your passengers) great views. There are some better cars out there if you want the ultimate in practicality and versatility.

5. Audi K7

Audi Q7 is the largest SUV of the German brand. It's comfortable, quiet and powerful. You can travel many hours in Q7 and feel refreshed. It's a big car, so finding a parking spot can be tricky, but it's very easy to drive. The luxurious interior is filled with high-tech equipment and designed with attention to detail, making your life easier.

While the Q7's third-row seats don't have as much room as some competitors, they're suitable for adults on short trips - perfect if a couple of friends or family members decide to join them at the last minute. In five-seater mode, the trunk is huge. The Q7 costs more than most of the other cars on this list, but its quality, features and appeal make it stand out as a premium option.

6.Volkswagen Touran.

Before SUVs rose in popularity, minivans (also known as "passenger cars") were the seven-seat family car of choice. The Volkswagen Touran is one of the few still on sale. This is one of the smallest, but it has enough space for a large family and their belongings. In addition, they are easier to drive in the city than large minivans.

The Touran's petrol and diesel engines are more economical than those in the larger SUV. It's comfortable, a pleasure to drive, and everyone gets a great view from the large windows. It is also well made with durable materials, so it should be able to withstand the rigors of family life.

7. Skoda Kodiak

Skoda's first full-size SUV is a great family car. Comfortable, spacious and reliable, the Kodiaq is easy to recommend for those looking for a practical and versatile vehicle. Efficient and quiet petrol and diesel engines make it a great choice for families traveling long distances with luggage full of gear, as well as for their four-legged friends.

The interior of the Kodiaq is filled with equipment, is very comfortable to use and has a high quality appearance. All-wheel drive versions have useful off-road capabilities and can tow heavier trailers. There's even a sporty, high-performance vRS model.

8. Toyota Prius +

The Toyota Prius+ is the only seven-passenger minivan with a hybrid powertrain, so it's perfect if you need a lot of space but want to keep your carbon footprint to a minimum. You also pay less road tax. It's a self-charging hybrid, not a plug-in, so it has a small zero-emissions range. But it's enough to make driving in cities and heavy traffic pretty easy, and you get an automatic transmission as standard.

There's plenty of room for a large family, and adults can fit in the rearmost seats if you slide the second row forward. It doesn't have the biggest trunk, but there's a useful extra storage compartment under the trunk floor.

9. Ford Galaxy

The Ford Galaxy is as popular with mini taxi drivers as it is with families because it's one of the few vehicles that can comfortably carry seven adults plus luggage on long journeys. It's a big car, but a pleasure to drive with responsive steering and excellent cornering balance. The high seating position, large windows and standard parking sensors make parking surprisingly easy.

Ford has a strong reputation for safety and reliability, and what the Galaxy lacks in eye-catching styling it more than makes up for in family-oriented practicality and well-thought-out interior comfort. If you want a serious car to carry a lot of people in comfort, the Ford Galaxy is hard to beat.
