As an interior designer, you need to transport many different items, including samples of fabrics, paints and wallpapers, and sometimes even pieces of furniture. You probably don't haul oversized loads very often, and when you need to, you're more likely to hire a truck or van. However, for everyday use, you'll probably appreciate a used minivan.

With that in mind, we evaluated a few and settled on the Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country, Nissan Quest SV, Toyota Sienna LE, and Ford Transit Connect.

  • Dodge grand caravanA: The Grand Caravan has been one of the most popular minivans on the market for the past 30 years, and for good reason. You can think of it as the prerogative of soccer moms, but when you fold the seats (or stow them if you like), you'll have more than enough room for your supplies. This is a beautiful minivan and you want to make a good impression.

  • Chrysler Town and Country: The Town & Country has plenty of cargo space—nearly 144 cubic feet with the seats folded down. There's also a roof rack and a power tailgate to make it easy for you to load and unload things.

  • Nissan Quest SV: The Quest SV has 108 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seats are removed, and power sliding doors make loading and unloading easy. With a rear view camera, it is also very maneuverable.

  • Toyota Sienna LE: With 150 cubic feet of cargo space, the Sienna LE provides plenty of room for all your interior items. Power tailgate makes loading and unloading easy. It's also a fairly inexpensive new car, so you can get a good deal on a used Sienna LE.

  • Ford Transit Connect Wagon: We offer this with a caveat - as an interior designer, you probably want to look stylish. In this regard, the Transit Connect is not very good - in fact, it looks rather bland. However, it is very reliable so you don't have to worry about disappointing your customers by not showing up due to a breakdown.

Any of these cars would be a good choice for an interior designer.
