Here's a brutal, hard fact: car manufacturers no longer target the elderly. Instead, they devote their time and energy to reaching out to the 18-45 demographic. However, some features make some vehicles more suitable for older drivers.

We evaluated several used cars and identified five that are ideal for retirees. These are Ford Fusion, Hyundai Azera, Chevrolet Impala, Kia Optima and Mazda3.

  • Ford Fusion: Ford Fusion offers more than just great fuel economy. It also features standard equipment that seniors will love, including a fully adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, a telescoping steering wheel and dual-zone climate control. You won't find a lot of cargo space in the Fusion, but then you don't carry kids around anymore.

  • Hyundai Azera: This is an amazingly comfortable car with many extras, including an eight-way power driver's seat, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and a glove box cooler. It's great for getting around town, inviting friends over for dinner or on the golf course, and even handy enough for a road trip if travel is your passion in retirement.

  • Chevrolet Impala: The Impala has changed a lot since you first learned to drive, but it continues to be a mainstay of the Chevy lineup. This full-size sedan is roomy and comfortable, but not bad when it comes to fuel economy. With a 3.6-liter V6 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission, you can also expect it to be great for overclocking, merging and other highway maneuvers.

  • Kia Optima: This car provides a very comfortable environment for both the driver and passengers, and also offers a lot of cargo space. If you're going on a trip, you'll appreciate the roomy 15 cubic foot trunk. We like the LX trim as it offers a host of extras such as keyless entry and dual-zone climate control, an adjustable driver's seat with adjustable lumbar support, and heated mirrors.

  • Mazda3: This is the most affordable car on our list, and it delivers great fuel economy as well. It is the top IIHS safety choice recommended by Consumer Reports. It offers manual driver seat height adjustment, steering wheel tilt and keyless entry.

We think that any car from this list will appeal to older people. If you are looking for a used car, you should definitely consider these options.
