Do you spend hours every week on the road for work? Maybe you just live in a very rural area and need to drive 30 or 45 minutes to get to the grocery store. In any case, your needs are very different from those of many other drivers. You want good highway fuel economy combined with plenty of interior space and comfortable seats, just to name a few. Here are some of the best used cars you can buy for highway driving.

  • 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid: Love the look of the Fusion, but want something that saves a little on fuel? The 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid can offer 47 mpg on the highway. It's also reasonably spacious inside (it's still a four-door sedan with room for the whole family). The seats are comfortable and you'll find plenty of options in the entertainment system.

  • 2014 Toyota CorollaA: Sure, the Corolla might not be the best family car, but if you're looking for great fuel economy and highway reliability, this is a good choice. The 2014 Corolla is capable of 42 mpg on the open road, which is actually due to the Volkswagen Jetta's diesel engine.

  • Mazda2014 2 years: The Mazda2 is a four-door hatchback that offers both good fuel economy and driving pleasure. It's light, and the small engine (1.5 liters) is capable of 35 mpg on the highway. The small size also makes it easy to handle, so you should enjoy driving.

  • Hyundai Accent 2012: Hyundai isn't the most attractive car on the market, but it has five doors and plenty of room inside (it's another four-door hatchback). There are plenty of standard features here, too, including cruise control and Bluetooth connectivity. It also delivers 37 mpg on the highway, making it slightly more fuel efficient than the Mazda2.

  • Ford Fiesta 2013: While it's probably not the ideal family car, there's no question that the Fiesta delivers on fuel economy. If you buy a model with the Super Fuel Economy package, you get 40 mpg on the highway. Without this package, you'll get 39 mpg (one mpg doesn't sound like much, but it increases over time).

Whether you're looking for a family hauler or just looking for an efficient little machine, there's definitely something here for you.
