Best Used Electric Vehicles

Used electric vehicles are a great buy if you're looking to lower your cost of ownership, reduce your environmental impact, or both. With more models to choose from than ever before, from city runabouts to family SUVs, now might be the time to decide to go electric. You can save a lot of money by not needing gasoline or diesel, they are exempt from the vehicle excise duty (car tax) and low emission zone fees charged by many cities.

Without further ado, here are our top 10 used electric vehicles.

1. Renault Zoe

Renault Zoe it's everything a French supermini should be: small, practical, affordable and fun to drive. It's also just an electric car that's been on sale since 2013, so there's a good range of used models to choose from. 

Earlier models have a range of up to 130 miles on a full charge, while the newer version (pictured), released in 2020, has a range of up to 247 miles. On some older versions, you may need to pay a separate rental fee (between £49 and £110 per month) for the battery.

Whichever version you choose, Zoe offers excellent value for money. It's also surprisingly spacious, with good legroom and plenty of trunk space for a car of this size. To top it all off, it's a pleasure to drive, with quick acceleration and a smooth ride.

2. BMW i3

Its futuristic look makes BMW i3 one of the most characteristic electric vehicles. It's also one of the best, offering great performance and an interior that combines a sleek, minimalist design with a high-end feel. Rear hinged doors provide good access to the five-seat cabin, and every version is well-equipped.

Battery range for early i3 models ranges from 81 miles for vehicles built prior to 2016 to 115 miles for vehicles built between 2016 and 2018. The i3 REx (Range Range Extender) model was also sold until 2018 with a small petrol engine that can take the battery out when it runs out of charge, giving you a range of up to 200 miles. The updated i3 (released in 2018) received an extended battery range of up to 193 miles and a new "S" version with a sportier look.

3. Kia Soul EV.

It's easy to see why the Kia Soul EV is one of the most popular used electric vehicles - it's stylish, practical and great value for money.

We are focusing on the first generation Soul electric car that was sold new from 2015 to 2020. The all-new version released in 2020 has a much longer range, but it will cost you a lot more and there are very few used versions. between so far.

Stick with the 2020 model and you'll get a pure electric hatchback with sleek SUV looks, a spacious interior and an official maximum range of up to 132 miles. This is a great pre-owned purchase that gives you the same battery range as many brand new models, with an official range of 180 to 279 miles, depending on which of the two models you choose. Both are fast around town and more than capable of handling motorways. 

The Kona's simple dashboard is comfortable to use, and its interior is solid and spacious enough for four adults and their luggage. You'll also find used Konas with petrol, diesel and hybrid engines, but the electric version is the way to go if you want to keep running costs down and minimize your environmental impact.

5. Nissan Leaf

Nissan Leaf the electric car that many people think of in the first place. And for good reason - Leaf has been around since 2011 and until the end of 2019 was the best-selling electric car in the world.

Previously, Leafs were among the cheapest electric vehicles to buy used - a good choice if you want a family car that requires little to no compromise when switching from a petrol or diesel car. These versions have an official maximum battery range of 124 to 155 miles, depending on which model you choose.

A brand new Leaf was released in 2018. You can tell it apart from the previous model by the extra black trim on the front, rear and roof. While you'll pay more for the Leaf after 2018, these models have a more premium look, more interior space and an official maximum range of 168 to 239 miles, depending on the model.

6. Kia e-Niro

If you want maximum battery range for your money, it's hard to look beyond the Kia e-Niro. With the official figure of up to 282 miles between charges, chances are you can avoid "range anxiety" altogether.

e-Niro has a lot more to recommend. For starters, it's easy and fun to drive, and since it's only been around since 2019, you can take advantage of Kia's market-leading seven-year warranty if you buy a used car.

Each version is also very well equipped with satellite navigation and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The interior is of high quality and spacious enough to make it a true family car, with plenty of headroom and legroom and a huge (451 liter) boot.

7. Hyundai Ioniq Electric

You will find many used Hyundai Ionic cars are available, and in addition to the purely electric version we are focusing on, there are hybrid versions and plug-in hybrid versions. You have to look closely to tell the Ioniq Electric apart from the others (the biggest clue is the silver-colored front grille), but if you take a ride, the difference is clear thanks to the car's extremely quiet motor and excellent acceleration.

With an official range of up to 193 miles for new versions, the Ioniq Electric is capable of not only city driving, but any road.

There's enough room in the cabin for most families and it looks well-constructed, while the dashboard is simple and the infotainment system (which includes sat-nav and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support) is easy to use.

Add to that the fact that most used Ioniq Electric EVs still have a portion of their original five-year warranty, and this becomes an EV that should easily fit into your life.

8. Volkswagen e-Golf

The Volkswagen Golf is a versatile hatchback for many drivers, and this is also true of the e-Golf, which went on sale new between 2014 and 2020. It looks the same as other Golf models, both inside and out. outside. On a full charge, the battery has an official range of up to 119 miles, making it ideal for commuting and school runs. Driving, as in any other Golf, is smooth and comfortable.

Inside, you could sit in any Golf, which is good news because it's just as comfortable and stylish as the interiors of family cars. There's plenty of room, and standard features include satellite navigation and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

9. Jaguar I-Pace

I-Pace, Jaguar's first electric vehicle, combines the luxury and sportiness you expect from a brand with breathtaking performance, zero emissions and sleek, futuristic styling. This is a very impressive debut.

Few electric vehicles are as fun to drive as the I-Pace. It can accelerate faster than many sports cars, and for such a large machine, it's responsive and agile. It's smooth and comfortable, and the standard all-wheel drive gives you confidence on slippery roads.

The interior is very spacious and combines high-tech features with luxurious materials, and the maximum official battery range is almost 300 miles.

10. Tesla Model S

No brand has done more than Tesla to make electric cars desirable. His first mass-produced car, the Model S, remains one of the most advanced and desirable cars on the road, despite going on sale back in 2014.

It helps that Tesla has installed its own fast-charging network at service stations across the UK, which means you can charge a Model S battery from zero to almost full in less than an hour. Choose the Long Range model and you can go from 370 to 405 miles on a single charge, depending on the age of the car. The Model S is also amazingly fast when you hit the gas pedal, thanks to the powerful electric motor.

You get a huge cabin space (seats up to seven), and the minimalist interior and huge central touchscreen look as modern as when the car was launched.
