Best Used Family Cars

Whether you're looking for a big and posh car or a compact and affordable car, there are plenty of great options if you're looking for your next family car. We have compiled a list of 8 of the most popular. Read on to find out which one is your perfect match.

1. Skoda Kodiak

The Skoda Kodiaq is a great family car because it does pretty much everything you could ever want and maybe even a little more. You can have it with five or seven seats, petrol or diesel engines, two or four wheel drive and a manual or automatic transmission.

You can also opt for a moderate trim level at a great price and with an efficient engine, or you can go all out and choose one that is filled with every feature you can imagine.

You can even opt for a sporty option if you find one of the vRS models. It's simply the best balance of value, practicality, luxury, sleek style, modern technology and convenience you'll find if you're looking for a large family SUV. It's far from the newest car here, but it still fully deserves the top spot.

2. Volkswagen Golf

The VW Golf defines the class of family hatchbacks, so if you don't want your family car to look like an SUV, you want deadpan dynamics, a stylish interior, one of the best infotainment systems in the class, and all the safety features. You might want the Golf to do it.

Replaced in 2020 by the all-new Mk8, the seventh generation Golf is a great second-hand purchase, it still looks stylish and lives up to the Golf's reputation for being a good balance of value and quality. Our choice from the engine lineup would be bubbling petrols, but high mileage drivers are advised to opt for the more economical and impressively improved diesels on offer.

3. Peugeot 5008

A family SUV is all about practicality, and the Peugeot 5008 excels at that. Do you remember the old-fashioned passenger carriage with three separate sliding seats? Well, the Peugeot 5008 is basically one of those, only in a fancy SUV body. Three equally sized, individually retractable seats in the middle row can accommodate three car seats, while the two folding seats in the back are great for older kids. There are plenty of neat touches, including hidden storage spaces and child locks that can be controlled via a button next to the driver.

It's also a fantastic value. However, it's not available with all-wheel drive, so it's not a "proper" SUV by any means. It has excellent traction control and decent ground clearance, so it will handle ruts and bumpy country roads with no problem.

4. Land Rover Discovery

If you're looking for a vehicle that can take you on a family adventure, the Land Rover Discovery is one of the best vehicles for that. It's a true off-road vehicle capable of traversing almost any type of terrain, so you can get to places that most cars can't, even many SUVs.

What's more, you'll get where you need to go in comfort because the cabin is incredibly spacious, with plenty of head and legroom and seven supportive seats. There are all sorts of features that make family life a little easier, whether it's a trunk that's super easy to clean or plenty of room to store your clutter.

The Discovery is a supremely relaxing touring car with a quiet cabin at speed and a smooth ride. This means that long journeys are less tiring for those driving and more comfortable for all other passengers.

5. Kia Sid Sports Car

The Kia Ceed Sportswagon isn't the kind of car you scream about in the pub, but it's spacious, fun to drive, economical, and has plenty of equipment, including a decent touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration.

It also has a seven year warranty and costs a lot less than the Golf or most equivalents. There are some great financing and rental deals out there if you're looking for them.

For many, excellent value for money, safety, spaciousness and, most importantly, inexpensiveness to buy and operate - this is really all that is needed from a decent family car. Choose the Sportswagon as your best option if you have a chunky buggy or dog to worry about, but the standard hatchback is a very decent option if a big trunk isn't such a priority. Take a look at the Hyundai i30, which gets all the same mechanical parts as the Kia for the same price and a five-year warranty.

6. Skoda Superb Universal

And another Skoda, but what can I say? Skoda makes some of the best family cars and sells them at great prices.

This big station wagon has a big trunk, rear passenger space like a limousine, an enjoyable ride, has all the engine options you could want (including a plug-in model), a great infotainment and navigation system, and you can even have one. with four-wheel drive.

If you want space, modern safety, comfort and technology, but don't need seven-seat cars or the ground clearance of an SUV, the Skoda Superb Estate really is the best option, and it comes at a fantastic price whether you're buying a new car or a used car. .

7. Volvo XC40

The Volvo XC40 has been called a "compact" SUV by vehicle type, but it's about the same size as the Nissan Qashqai, which isn't very compact by many people's standards. It's big enough to handle the needs of a small family, but the XC40's streamlined shape, light driver controls and decent visibility also make it ideal for relieving stress during a harrowing school run or city commute.

It also has some great engine options, including a three-cylinder petrol and a plug-in hybrid. By 2021, you'll also be able to get the all-electric XC40, so there really will be a version for every lifestyle.

In addition, the XC40 comes equipped with a standard safety kit, looks fantastic, and exudes unmistakable Scandinavian design inside. If you're looking for a premium small SUV for your family, this is a great choice.

8. Tesla Model X

The all-electric Tesla Model X is perhaps best known for its crazy performance, but it's also one of the biggest and most practical family cars you can buy.

You can have the Model X in a five-, six-, or seven-seat layout, with a large trunk in the back and even more storage under the hood. It's more than big enough that you can fit a couple of light buggies in the trunk, even with seven seats.

Of course, it has all the taxes and fuel economy of any electric car, and while there are different battery sizes that determine how far the car will go before you need to plug it in, they will all go over 150 miles. driving in the real world between charges. The Model X also has all-wheel drive and a payload of 2250 kg, making it suitable for a van or caravan. So, if you can live with the high price and questionable build quality, the Tesla Model X really is one of the most versatile family cars you can buy.
