Best New Car Deals: Updated January 2022

The new flagship Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain is available at a slight discount despite launching in 2020.

Strong buying in 2021 means the new car market will rebound by 2022, and while that means a fresh influx of new cars, demand still outstrips supply.

At the same time, unfortunately, dealers and automakers are less enthusiastic about discounts. But don't despair - if you're in need of a new car, there are still special deals available this weekend from various manufacturers, including those listed here.

Take a look at Isuzu's top-of-the-line model with over $7500 savings, for example. We still suggest looking for demonstrators and vehicles with a previous year's release date (easy to find at this time of year), as very few models have changed much in the last 12 months.

Australia's fastest growing brand by sales, MG seems to be topping the list of deals this month. He offers free metallic paint on most of his models, which will save you $500 and give you a brand new car that literally sparkles.

The least expensive is the MG MG3 hatchback, which is available from $17,990 for an automatic Core version with a 1.5-liter petrol engine. Step up to the ZS SUV, which is $21,990 in the Excite version with automatic transmission, including travel expenses and a free paint upgrade. Then there's the $25,490 ZST Core and the family-sized HS Core with an automatic transmission, a $1.5 turbo-petrol engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for $29,990.

For tech enthusiasts and those looking to save on operating costs while reducing emissions, the HS Plus Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine assisted by a 90 kW electric motor. Charge it and it will travel 52 km on electricity alone. For short distances, you can hardly use a gasoline engine. The HS Plus Hybrid costs $47,990 and comes with free metallic paint.

The ZS EV Essence is the cheapest family electric car in Australia with a range of 263 km and the ability to charge its batteries to 80 percent in 45 minutes (from an 85 kW charging station) or plug it in at home for a full charge in seven hours. Now it costs $44,990.

Isuzu Ute is not shy about offering discounts even on its recently launched range of cars and wagons. The D-Max ute is available with a double cab in its flagship X-Terrain version for a huge savings of $7630. The X-Terrain comes with all-wheel drive, a six-speed automatic transmission, the latest safety gear and multimedia, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery and a six-year warranty. The X-Terrain is now $4, up from $62,990.

As a workhorse, the Isuzu D-Max SX comes with a 4×2 single cab chassis and "High Ride" configuration for $29,990. The price is for a six-speed manual transmission with the new Isuzu 1.9-litre turbo-petrol engine and the price includes an alloy sump.

For the family, Isuzu has also slashed the price of its latest MU-X 4WD wagon. The MU-X has all the off-road and towing qualities of the D-Max ute it's based on, however it delivers a smoother ride thanks to a different rear suspension. A seven-seat MU-X LS-T station wagon with automatic transmission is on offer, now priced at $63,990, a savings of about $6000. The LS-T features a high level of safety and convenience, including 18-inch alloy wheels and leather upholstery.

Suzuki has slightly scaled down its S-Cross Turbo wagon for Australian customers, except for residents of Queensland and northern New South Wales. The station wagon has a 1.4-liter turbo-petrol engine, automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Now it's $30,990, a savings of about $3000.

The Vitara is also slightly cheaper, at $27,990 for the 1.6L base model 2WD with a manual transmission and $29,490 for the automatic. Savings around $2500.

Ford handled most of the road expenses with one of the Ranger variants. The all-wheel-drive XLT with a double cab and five-cylinder 4-liter turbodiesel now costs $3.2. The regular price is $58,990 plus travel expenses, so the savings is around $57,490, depending on which state you live in.

Hyundai has also taken on most of the travel expenses for its Santa Fe SUV. The all-wheel-drive, seven-seat diesel version now costs $49,990, saving you about $3500. The station wagon has a 2.2-liter turbodiesel with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Features include parking sensors, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and wireless charging for your mobile phone. Hyundai also has a discounted i30 Active automatic sedan priced at $29,990.

There are also several offerings from Kia, including the $1.6 Niro 41,990 S Hybrid. Usually it's $39,990 plus travel expenses. The Niro is a high-performance hatchback (Kia calls it an SUV) that averages 3.8 liters of fuel per 100 km. It is equipped with a 1.6 liter petrol engine and a 32 kW electric motor, allowing it to travel up to 1200 km on a single tank. Kia has a seven year warranty.
