Australia's favorite SUV now costs more! The 2022 Toyota RAV4 has risen in price but lacks performance from the recent refresh of the Mazda CX-5 and rival Mitsubishi Outlander.

Australia's most popular SUV now costs more.

Just two months after its release, Toyota Australia has raised prices for the midsize RAV22 MY4, with Australia's best-selling SUV continuing its transition to a more upmarket market.

The entry-class RAV4 GX now costs $100 more, while its mid-range GXL, XSE and Cruiser versions are $125, $425 and $750 more expensive, respectively. Finally, its flagship Edge variants now cost an additional $380 (see full pricing table below).

As expected, the standard specification of these brands has not changed, unlike when the MY22 update appeared at the beginning of 2022 with an expanded range and additional equipment.

"Toyota has reluctantly made a slight change to the suggested retail prices for RAV4 models effective March 1, 2022," a local company spokesperson said. Cars Guide. “It is important to note that these changes do not apply to any confirmed orders received before the end of February, regardless of delivery date.

“Toyota is committed to avoiding price changes beyond model updates and the introduction of new and enhanced features; however, from time to time such changes become necessary due to other factors, which may include currency, shipping and manufacturing costs.

"We do not expect these extremely modest changes to impact overall demand for the RAV4, which is Australia's best-selling SUV."

For reference, the RAV4 is available with three powertrain options, including a 127kW/205Nm 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine available in front-wheel drive (FWD) GX, GXL and Cruiser.

The same unit is part of a “self-charging” parallel hybrid powertrain that is offered in all five trim levels, both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (AWD). The first produces 160 kW, and the second - 163 kW.

And then there's the 152-liter naturally aspirated 243kW/2.5Nm Edge four-cylinder petrol engine with all-wheel drive. It is mated to an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission, while the rest of the range uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
