Having tested a considerable amount of motor oils on my cars, I cannot fail to mention such a manufacturer as Rosneft. Of course, this is not the type of engine oil that can be said to be flawless. But the existing shortcomings are fully compensated by the price category in which Rosneft motor oils are sold.

Lubricants of this company are in demand among owners of domestic cars. In part, this predominance in our market is due to the fact that in 2012 the company signed a contract with the largest automaker in Russia and Eastern Europe, AvtoVAZ.

General information about the manufacturer and oil

Rosneft is the leading company in the Russian market, as well as one of the largest companies in the world. The company operates its subsidiary RN-Lubricants, which is directly involved in the production and sale of motor oils used in passenger cars and, in some cases, in industrial equipment. Among the companies involved in the production of additives, Rosneft occupies an honorable first place. In its arsenal there are more than 300 items produced under the company's trademark.

Until recently, Rosneft oil fluids were considered engine oils of dubious quality. The car needed an oil change every 5-6 thousand km, due to rapid wear, small solid particles were formed, which led to engine failure. All this confusion continued until the end of 2017, until the company carried out a radical rebranding and reconsidered its attitude towards independent production.

What are the types of oils Rosneft

Key types of fuels and lubricants from the Rosneft company presented on the market today:

• synthetic motor oil under the Rosneft Premium brand (similar to Ultratec);
• mineral-based motor oil Rosneft Optimum (similar to Standard);
• motor oil semi-synthetic Rosneft Maximum;
• motor oil with detergent composition Rosneft Express

All listed types of motor oils meet modern requirements and European standards. Rosneft oil is suitable for a variety of operating conditions. Manufacturers are sensitive to the quality of their oil, therefore, at all stages of production, careful monitoring of compliance with all necessary conditions is carried out, from the extraction of an oil resource to the sale of products.

Characteristics of oils Rosneft

As mentioned above, Rosneft motor oil has 4 categories of oils that are still sold today: Premium, Optimum, Maximum and Express. Each of these oils has a unique set of properties. In a word, these types of oils cover almost all types of power units of cars and special equipment.

Premium 5W-40

Fully synthetic oil (Full Synthetic) is produced under the Premium brand, as evidenced by the viscosity class indicated in the name. Its characteristics are detailed below:

• ignition temperature - 220 ° C;
• viscosity index - 176;
• alkalinity number - 8,3 mgKOH / g;
• acid number - 2,34;
• sulfate ash content - 1,01%;
• pour point (loss of solidification) - 33 ° C

This oil is approved by major car manufacturers such as Volkswagen and Opel. Due to its price, this oil can serve as a replacement for foreign Mobile and Shell Helix, but it is still advisable to use this engine oil in budget cars.

The oily liquid is produced by hydrocracking technology. The production uses a set of anti-wear additives based on phosphorus and zinc, detergent additives based on calcium. It should be noted that this oil is no longer produced, it was replaced by Ultratec oil from the Magnum oil series.

Ultratec

Technical indicators of Ultratec engine oil:

• the temperatures at which the oil loses its working properties are identical to "Premium";
• viscosity index - 160;
• alkalinity number - 10,6 mgKOH / g;
• ash content of sulfates - 1,4%;
• percentage of evaporation - 11%

Optimum

This subspecies of Rosneft engine oil, in addition to the mineral base, is also produced on a semi-synthetic basis. It is more convenient to use oil in carburetor and economical engines with an injector, as well as in time-tested diesel engines.

The oil has three viscosity ranges at once: 15W-40, 10W-30 and 10W-40. The oil complies with API SG/CD classification. This engine oil is the best option for domestic cars with a carburetor: UAZ, GAZ, IZH, VAZ. It also works well in non-turbocharged imported cars.

The oil has a fairly high alkalinity number - 9, as well as a high calcium content and strong volatility - from 11 to 17%, depending on the viscosity. Because of this, the oil has a short change interval. After driving 6-7 thousand km, most likely, an engine oil change will be required. Oil with a viscosity of 10W-30 is produced on a mineral basis. According to the manufacturer, they save energy and allegedly help reduce fuel consumption.

Optimum 10W-40 oil, in addition to viscosity, is also distinguished by the fact that it is produced on a semi-synthetic basis. But the characteristics are similar to 10W-30 oil. 15W-40 motor oil, like 10W-30, has a mineral base. This brand has taken the path of Premium oil and is no longer produced, instead Standard is now being produced.

Standard

Rosneft Standard engine oil is a mineral oil and is available in two viscosity grades: 15W-40 and 20W-50. This oil is produced in accordance with API SF/CC specifications. The characteristics of this oil leave much to be desired, but as noted above, the manufacturer compensates for all the shortcomings by reducing the cost. Characteristics of oil with a viscosity of 15W-40 and 20W-50, respectively, are given below:

• viscosity indicators - 130 and 105;
• alkalinity indicators - 8,4 and 5,6 mgKOH / g;
• ash content of sulfates - 0,8% of each%;
• evapotranspiration by PLA - 10,9 and 12,1%

For use in carbureted and used diesel engines.

Maximum

These engine oils are available in different viscosities and depending on the base used (semi-synthetic/mineral), performance will vary slightly. The most popular choice among buyers is Rosneft Maximum 5W-40 oil. Below are its characteristics:

• viscosity index - 130;
• alkalinity index - 7,7;
• ash content of sulfates - 1,4%;
• evapotranspiration according to PLA - 12%

Before the rebranding of Rosneft, there were instructions against the use of oil in new cars. To understand how things are now, it is necessary to conduct trial tests.

Express

Produced on a mineral basis, using a complex of high-quality additives with detergent properties. It is recommended to use as a prophylactic agent when changing engine oils, after long-term use of engine cleaning oil. The characteristics of the oil are as follows:

• kinematic viscosity - 31,4 cSt;
• percentage of calcium 0,09%;
• loss of fluidity already at -10°C

Important! Oil should not be used for continuous driving. This is a preventative engine cleaner.

Ways to distinguish a fake

To the best of their prevalence and low price, attackers often choose Rosneft engine oils for fake. In order not to fall into the trap, when choosing an oil, you should pay attention to the following details:

• The presence of a measuring scale. If not, then it's probably fake.
• The engraving is clearly visible on the covers of the originals. The drawing should be voluminous.
• If the retaining ring is broken or completely missing, you should not buy such oil.
• Under the lid, the originals have an aluminum plug.
• On both sides of the container there is a 3D company logo.
• The legibility of pictures and printed text on the label must be at an appropriate level.
• Bottle smells. They are not in the original. Plastic shouldn't smell.
• If the price seems high, it's worth considering. The company stands out for its low prices.

Prices

Depending on the required viscosity and type of engine oil per 1 liter, the cost varies between 110-180 rubles. A container for 4 liters costs 330-900 rubles. For 20 liters you will have to pay within 1000-3500 rubles. Barrels of 180 liters will cost 15500-50000 rubles.
