Tep-15 oil. Characteristics and applications

General parameters and application of TEP-15

Tep-15 oil (the number in the brand name means the nominal viscosity of this lubricant at 100ºC) has a low gel point and contains anti-wear and extreme pressure additives. The acidity of the substance is low, which makes it possible to provide gear parts (especially open ones) with sufficiently high anti-corrosion characteristics. For the production of Tep-15 gear oil, grades of oil with a high percentage of resins are used, so the final product is obtained only as a result of high-quality distillation and distillation of the feedstock.

In everyday life, this lubricant is often used to produce other types of gear oil, using Tep-15 nigrol as an additive (however, this is only permissible for domestic brands of old cars, the hypoid gears of which are not critical to changes in the recommended viscosity characteristics).

Tep-15 oil. Characteristics and applications

The relatively low price of the material justifies the need for frequent replacement if the vehicle is heavily used. This is explained by the fact that with increased contact loads, the oil separates, the allowable percentage of mechanical impurities increases, and the contact temperatures increase, which leads to accelerated wear of the shafts and gears.

Features of the composition and operating conditions

Unlike the common Tad-17 brand, the product in question has a lower viscosity. This reduces the effort when shifting gears of the vehicle, in particular, in the steady state of its application. Part of the additives to Tep-15 has not so much an improvement in extreme pressure ability, but an increase in the thickening temperature: from 0 ... -5ºFrom to -20…-30ºC. This increases the reliability of the mechanical transmissions of tractors at low ambient temperatures, as well as during periodic engine shutdowns.

Tep-15 oil. Characteristics and applications

Technical characteristics of Tep-15 brand transmission oil:

  1. Density, kg / m3 - 940… 950.
  2. Viscosity, cSt at 100ºC, no more than 16.
  3. The maximum allowable percentage of impurities, %, not more than - 0,03.
  4. Corrosion resistance - must comply with the requirements of GOST 2917-76.
  5. Basic extreme pressure additives: phosphorus (not less than 0,06%), sulfur (not more than 3,0%).
  6. Permissible increase in viscosity at contact temperatures over 140ºC, %, not more than - 9.
  7. Chemical aggressiveness in relation to petrol-oil-resistant rubbers - meets the requirements of GOST 9030-74.

The lubricant has low toxicity (hazard group 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76) and is characterized by a fairly long shelf life (up to 5 years, subject to proper conditions).

Restrictions

The limited percentage of additives, although it provides a low price for products, does not guarantee the delamination of the lubricant during prolonged operation. Therefore, every 20 ... 30 thousand kilometers of the vehicle, such gear oil must be replaced.

As a combustible substance, Tep-15 should be used with caution near open sources of flame, as well as near potential ignition sources. When stored in warehouses, they must be ventilated, as a result of which the concentration of vapors of a substance in the air decreases to 3 ... 4 mg / m3.

The optimal combination of depressant additives should not be less than 1,3%, since otherwise the risk of crystallization of the oil components increases. As a result, the operation of all mechanical transmissions of the vehicle becomes more difficult and the gear engagement force increases.

Some manufacturers produce Tep-15 gear oil called TM-2-18. Here, the first number indicates the operating group according to GOST 17479.2-85, and the second - the lowest viscosity value at 100ºC. Other conditions for the use of this lubricant are determined by the requirements of GOST 23652-79.
