Engine and gearbox oil Grants

04Some owners of Lada Grants naively believe that this is a completely new car and that it is somewhat different from previous VAZ models. In fact, the engines that are currently installed on all Grants are exactly the same as on Kalina and Priora. And this suggests that all operating fluids, including engine and gearbox oils, will be similar.

If you bought a new car at a car dealership, then most likely the engine was originally filled with ordinary mineral oil, most likely Lukoil. And some purchase managers say that it is best not to drain this oil for several thousand kilometers, since mineral water is better for the break-in period. But again, this opinion is erroneous and unsubstantiated. If you want the engine to be as protected as possible from the first days of life, then it is best to immediately change the mineral water to synthetics, or to semi-synthetic.

What oils in the engine are recommended by the manufacturer for grants

Below is a table that is presented in the official operating manual when buying a new Lada Granta car.

Of course, this does not mean at all that in addition to the above oils, no more can be poured. Of course, you can use other lubricants that are suitable for the gasoline engine and are designed to operate in a specific temperature range.

With regard to viscosity grades, it is also worth keeping in mind that, depending on the ambient temperature, it is worth choosing the oil that suits you best. Another table on this matter is presented below:

Manufacturer's recommendations for gearbox oils Lada Grants

The gearbox is less demanding on oil, but this does not mean that you should not monitor the condition and level. The replacement should also be carried out on time, and it is better not to save on fuels and lubricants, since the service life during operation on synthetics will clearly be higher.

Here is what Avtovaz recommends for its cars with regard to transmission oils:

As you can see, for each region, depending on climatic conditions, it is necessary to select a certain oil by the viscosity class. For example, for central Russia, 75W90 will be the best choice, since it is suitable for both extreme heat and low temperatures (large frosts). Although the 75W80 would also be a good option.

If the air temperature is constantly high and frost is rare for your region, then it is better to use classes such as 80W90 or even 85W90.

Mineral or synthetic?

I think that many owners know that synthetic oils have huge advantages over mineral oils, which are as follows:

  • First, the lubricating properties of synthetics are much higher, which increases the life of all engine parts.
  • Secondly, the cleaning properties are also high, which means that deposits and various residues of metal particles will be less when the engine is running.
  • Operation in the winter is a particular advantage, and many owners of the Grants have already felt that starting the engine in severe frost on full synthetics is much better than on mineral or semi-synthetic oils.

The only drawback that can be attributed to synthetic oils is their high cost, due to which not every motorist will allow himself this pleasure.
