Massive 2022 Isuzu D-Max lineup expansion: new engine, options and pricing as Australian family boom grows

The Isuzu D-Max family is growing in Australia.

The Isuzu D-Max family will expand in Australia from December 1st with new variants, a new smaller engine option and a host of new features coming into the 2022 model year.

The expansion hits both ends of the D-Max spectrum, with the flagship X-Terrain 4X4 now equipped with optional equipment, and a new 1.9-liter turbodiesel making its debut in the entry-level D-Max SX on January 1st.

But let's start at the very top, where the D-Max X-Terrain now uses a factory-installed towbar receiver, red-and-black interior highlights, an auto-dimming mirror, and heated front seats and exterior mirrors. It is still equipped with a powerful 4-litre Isuzu 3JJ3.0 turbodiesel engine delivering 140kW/450Nm.

But as you no doubt know, almost nothing comes for free, and with updates comes the MSRP jump from $63,900 to $65,900. However, there is a deal with Isuzu that guarantees the price to anyone who has already ordered a D-Max, so any outstanding orders made before July 31 can be upgraded to the 2022 variant at no additional charge.

The line then moves on to the new LS-U+ trim, designed to sit above the existing LS-U, which adds leather interior trim, heated front seats and a power driver's seat, as well as keyless entry. with proximity lock, guide insert and new towbar receiver. The LS-U+ is only available in the Crew Cab version and costs $61,900.

At the other end of the D-Max table is the entry-level SX, which is now available in new variants; Space Cab 4x2 Auto chassis with 3.0-litre turbodiesel, rear cab doors and 2100mm alloy or steel sump, and SX Single Cab 4x2 chassis with new Isuzu 1.9-litre turbo engine. diesel mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

As you remember, the 1.9-litre engine is offered with D-Max worldwide, but the brand's Australian division has decided to exclusively offer a larger engine, in line with our towing and payload requirements. But using a smaller engine, albeit sparingly, allows Isuzu to unlock a lower starting price on its ute, with the cheapest manual version now offering $31,200 up from $33,200.

The engine, which is only offered on the entry-level single-cab SX chassis, delivers 110kW of power and 350Nm of torque and can tow 2,800kg (manual) or 3,000kg (car) with brakes.

In addition, Isuzu has also added two new mid-range options for 2022 - the LS-M Crew Cab Chassis 4×4 and the LS-U Crew Cab Chassis 4×4, both of which received a larger 4×4 Terrain Command diesel engine. . with locking rear differential and 1800 mm alloy or steel pan.

Elsewhere there are plenty of spec updates, but with them comes some price increases. The LS-U Crew Cab, Space Cab, and Crew Cab Chassis 4x4 now have keyless entry with push button start and proximity lock, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a factory-installed towbar receiver (and tub insert where applicable). But if the Space Cab cost $54,900, now it costs $56,400, and if the Crew Cab cost $55,900, now it costs $57,400.

Meanwhile, the LS-M Crew Cab 4×4 now gets rear parking sensors, with prices unchanged for that model.

“The preliminary specs for the 2022 D-Max line are incredibly interesting; with a new engine, new models and upgrades that quickly meet the demand of Australian customers,” says Hiroyasu Sato, Managing Director of Isuzu Ute Australia.

“It is our customer feedback that has been the driving force behind these updates and we are proud to expand on the proven D-Max recipe that has solidified its place on many Australian roads.”
