The upcoming Mazda CX-80 SUV is showing off a great figure in new renderings out of Japan, serving as a sort of preview of the new premium SUV that is set to launch in Australia.

Using the CX-50 presented in the US as a guide, the designers of the Japanese site Scoop spyder7 created their own preview of Mazda's new three-row SUV, which, at least initially, is expected to sit alongside the CX-8 as the model's more premium sibling.

And, even better, unlike the CX-50, the CX-80 is being considered for our market.

So what to expect?

It's just a rendering at the moment, but if the image is a guide, then we can expect a large SUV that manages to adopt Mazda's more modern design language, including a new streamlined grille and body contours.

According spyder7The new CX-80 will build on Mazda's large car architecture and will be offered with a choice of 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, both with the option of improving mild hybrid technology (albeit marginally) in fuel efficiency.

The three-row, seven-seat SUV is expected to be larger than the CX-8 and will draw more heavily on Mazda's premium aspirations.

According to the Japanese press, the CX-80 will be released in the domestic market in 2023 and international markets will follow.
