Mazda takes the throne from Toyota and takes first place in Consumer Reports reliability with its MX-5.

The rankings are compiled annually based on a survey of 300,000 cars.

For the past six years, and Lexus have ranked at the top of the annual Vehicle Reliability Survey. Its reliability was so great that it was no longer surprising that its models appeared at the top of the ranking year after year, however, Mazda has dethroned them both, rising to the number one spot for the first time.

According to the report, Mazda came out on top with powertrains, and that used durable (and more fun) six-speed automatics instead of CVTs, which tend to be more brittle. Mazda also didn't rely on overly sophisticated infotainment systems, instead bucking industry trends with cockpits that discourage screen use while driving and encourage buttons and dials that can be operated without taking your eyes off the car. road. with a score of 98 out of 100, followed by the CX-30, CX-3 and CX-5, all with a score of 85 or better.

Overall, Toyota and Lexus still rank well above average, ranking second and third respectively. Lexus was dragged down by problems related to the LS, but CR did not specify the nature of those problems.

Buick was the brand that improved the most, moving up 14 spots to claim fourth place. His show was largely attributed to the Encore, which received a score of 91. He moved up seven positions to complete the top five, but was denied a better position due to Passport and Odyssey scoring in the mid-30s.

Among European brands, it achieved the highest position, finishing in 9th place. He moved up five spots to 12th while maintaining his average position of 14th, and among the German "Big Three" he was ranked 20th.

At the bottom of the list were Ford, Mini, Volkswagen, Tesla and Lincoln dropping 11 places to last place. In particular, the Ford Explorer was called out for having the fewest points of any model, barely registering a score of 1, thanks to gremlins with engines, bodywork, power equipment, electronics, and transmissions.

The newly-introduced Model Y crossover dragged the electric carmaker's position to penultimate place. Owners of the Model Y, which began production in January, reported misaligned body panels that had to be repaired and mismatched paint, including, in one case, human hair getting stuck in the paint, according to Consumer Reports.
