Mazda6 Sport Combi CD140 TE Plus

Mazda has become a beauty with the previous generation of six, and Europeans love it too. It's the same with the new Six: in terms of design, it has evolved into a clearer image while retaining a pleasing flowing line. And she remained recognizable.

It is a six in the station wagon version and the rear end looks like a sedan (station wagon). Even remotely, there is no impression that the structure is forcibly attached to the body of this middle-class car. This puts the Sportcombi, as Mazda calls it, in terms of looks and user side, ahead of a sedan and even more so a (classic) sedan. Since vans, especially in this size class, are still in vogue, this body version is likely to be the most popular. At least in Slovenia.

No complicated mechanisms - the fifth door opens with a simple button above the license plate. They open up to about 180 inches high, which taller people won't like or just get used to. The space seems large, and there are only slight bulges on both sides that "spoil" the correct shape of the room.

In the test Mazda6, there was an additional plastic tray in the trunk for dirty objects, which, as elsewhere, shows its good and bad sides. It's no doubt good that you don't stain beautiful (black) upholstery with the items you put in it, but there are two bad things: the double bottom is difficult to access, and moving items become louder. than the original base.

When five doors are opened, a soft shelf rises, which otherwise hides the contents of the trunk, and in addition, in the same case of the winding mechanism there is also a net for the vertical partition of the space between the trunk and the passenger compartment.

Of course, the trunk can also be (threefold) increased: the folding armrests of the backs are also located at the very rear, so that you do not have to jump over the rear side door and back to the fifth door, and when the back is lowered, the seat also sags a little. A completely flat surface is created, without a step and without an inclined part.

With the addition of boxes on the sides of the rack and additional lashing eyes, it is clear that the rack is comfortable, spacious and easy to use. Which (unfortunately so far) is not self-evident.

The space on the back bench is a little less friendly. There, passengers find only one pocket on the back of the front seats, a (small) ashtray and a center armrest (with two places for cans), and extra (more useful) boxes, an outlet (it's true that one is in the elbow pads between the front seats, but ... ) and (adjustable) air vents, since the Six is already big enough to carry more than two passengers in the front seats over long distances (comfortable enough).

It is true, however, that they are much better: there are more drawers, the air conditioner works very well and favorably (although the temperature should be set fairly low for general comfort), and the atmosphere is generally pleasant.

Most of the lighting is unobtrusively red (the gauges on the gauges are white), most of the controls (especially for the air conditioner) are large and simple, only the audio system needs a little more attention to the buttons first. ... In fact, there is only one thing we can blame on the driver's seat: the use of the on-board computer.

Already in the previous generation, they did not show themselves, but here they complicated the matter, which is not only inconvenient, but also distracts the driver from what is happening on the road. More than one button must be used to scroll through the data and the data is displayed too far (to the right) from the driver's angle of view.

The 6-litre turbodiesel that the test Mazda200 drove may be days away as it will soon be replaced by a new XNUMXcc one, but it's already performing well. It's not the kind to go crazy with, but you can always ride it really fast - even uphill.

The red box at 4.500 is not only achievable, but easily overtaken by the engine, and because of the good torque it can be argued that the vast majority of this car's performance is available even if the driver pushes it to 3.700 rpm - in good service life and fuel consumption . For example, in sixth gear, only five to eight liters of fuel per 100 kilometers are required from 160 to 100 kilometers per hour, and in fourth - from 5 to 6 liters.

The machine may indeed be a little louder than modern products of this type, but it is quiet and responsive at all stages of operation. Since the range always exceeds 700 kilometers, the Mazda6 can be a good traveler with it.

At 130 kph, it still accelerates well in sixth gear (2.150 rpm) after accelerating, and its only noticeable weakness is a slightly more pronounced delay from the moment the driver presses the gas pedal to the moment the car reacts. Clear: we expect the new engine to be (even) better in every way.

This is more than just the right transmission, it has six gears, but on the snails it still needs to be shifted into first gear, which means the transmission is very long, the engine is weak above idle, or both. Otherwise, the rest of the mechanics are very good. The quick response of the brake pedal (which is not particularly difficult) takes some getting used to, and the chassis is great, it is comfortable, but it does not protect sportiness either.

Mazda6 Sportcombi, of course, can be motorized and equipped in different ways, but this does not change the overall impression. Undoubtedly, this is a car that Mazda should not be ashamed of - quite the opposite! Because he's really lucky.

  • Neat and good, practical and technical. When a new turbodiesel appears on the market, the choice (three different capacities) will become even easier. Well, or more difficult.
