Maserati Grecal. The lack of semiconductors postpones the premiere

The Maserati Grecale's global launch, originally scheduled for November 16, has been pushed back to spring 2022 due to issues disrupting the supply chains of key components needed to complete the car's production process.

Production volumes would not allow Maserati to adequately respond to expected global demand - in particular, due to a shortage of semiconductors. The new Grecale SUV offers revolutionary features, especially in the areas of connectivity and human-machine interface. The Grecale model will be the brand's first electric model. It will be based on the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, making it smaller than the Maserati Levante. Additional information will be announced from November 16th.

What to do without semiconductors? There are several reasons for this in the automotive industry: First, during the pandemic, semiconductor manufacturers switched to supplying industries with growing demand, after demand for chips in the automotive sector fell sharply.

Second, it was affected by random events that caused plant failures in Texas and Japan, or a drought in Taiwan. Added to this are questions about the production capacity of individual components and the impact of the pandemic in Asia with a low vaccination rate, where part of the production process takes place.
