The Spider version of the just-launched 600LT could soon follow the expected coupe demand.

Today at the presentation of the McLaren 600LT in Australia, representatives of McLaren allowed Cars Guide know that - pending the success of the 600LT run - the 600LT Spider will be "probable".

This would follow the previous "Longtail" McLaren, the McLaren 675LT, which received a Spider drop-top version after demand for the coupe was overwhelming.

McLaren declined to give numbers for the 600LT, saying it would largely depend on demand and how many cars the company could build in the 12-month period set for 600LT production, but McLaren was eager to ram. that "it will be a rare car."

The 600LT will currently retail for $455,000 locally before buyers start adding personal touches to it. That's at least $60,000 more than the $570K it's based on.

McLaren has tweaked the formula so the 600LT weighs about 100kg less thanks to features like thinner glass, more carbon fiber, lighter brakes and an exhaust system that's so shorter it often breathes fire.

It's also claimed to produce much more downforce than the 570S and 0.3 seconds faster from 0 to 100 km/h (now 2.7 seconds to 100, for anyone wondering).

As for how much the Spider will cost, put it in the "unknown" box because if it arrives in Australia, it will be even rarer than its coupe counterpart. Only 22 675LT Spiders out of 500 around the world made it to the shores of Australia, built specifically for the needs of customers.

While the 600LT is only the fourth Longtail ever created by the brand, it could be part of a future series, with McLaren also mentioning that "LT is from now on" for improved versions of the Sports, Super brand. and cars of the Ultimate series.

Will the 600LT Spider be your best McLaren, or would you rather see the long tail version of the 720S? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
