McLaren LT to be permanent badge for supercar brand's secondary specials

The 600LT is the latest model in the Longtail lineup.

The LT badge, which began with the iconic McLaren F1 GTR "Longtail" in 1997, is set to become the British sports car specialist's permanent trademark for the next level versions of the Sports, Super and Ultimate series cars.

Cars Guide understands that while the 600LT is only the fourth vehicle to receive the Long Tail, other vehicles will follow the Track25 brand roadmap and deliver 18 new vehicles or derivatives by 2025. McLaren representatives said Cars Guide at the Australian launch of the 600LT that won't mess around with other nameplates like Ferrari with "Speciale" or "Pista" saying that in terms of Tier XNUMX McLaren specials, "LT is it".

We expect the Spider 600LT version to be next in line for the LT badge, but it wouldn't be surprising to see a 720S with Longtail treatment. Such a model would likely fall short of the hardcore 720S-based Senna that debuted last year.

Recent McLaren "Longtail" improvements for the 600LT included a weight reduction of approximately 100 kg through extensive use of carbon fiber bodywork, as well as redesign of components such as the brakes and exhaust system.

The 600LT has no carpets, no door pockets, no GPS, no air conditioning. The glass is even thinner than the 570S on which it is based. Various new aerodynamic details, including a 74mm body extension, significantly increase downforce.

As for the rest of McLaren's "Track25" plan, a 673kW P1 "hypercar" replacement is in the works, as well as a model called the "Speedtail," which McLaren describes as "the ultimate hypercar."

McLaren plans to make the Speedtail "the best road-going McLaren". Planned for production is just 106 cars, and it's expected to produce over 736kW from a modified version of the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 found in the 720S. Importantly, McLaren says the Speedtail will have a three-seat configuration, just like its legendary F1 predecessor.

This would make it the most powerful road-going McLaren ever made, though how it will fit into the lineup alongside the P1 replacement is unknown.
