Mechatronik is working on a very special Mercedes SLC 107

The design based on the classic coupe will have many technological improvements.

The Mechatronic workshop is located north of Stuttgart. The company was founded in 1997 and initially had only three employees who dealt with Mercedes models. Meanwhile, the company now not only restores, repairs, maintains and sells models of the brand with a three-pointed star, but even develops its own versions of its models - based on the famous classic models from the Daimler concern. So far, under the brand name "New Tech", the company has released the W 111 in Coupé and Cabrio versions, as well as the famous "pagoda". Now it's time for the third product to appear in the portfolio.

In this case, we are talking about the pagoda's successor, the Mercedes 107, which was once known as the R 107 convertible and the C 107 coupe. The prototype shown is based on the SLC. The model is expected to be fully ready next year, but we can already tell you some interesting facts about it.

Wider and lower

No matter how much the prototype is covered with masking film, its enormous width cannot help but stand out. The front part is noticeably modified, and the bumpers are new. "Project 107" also has a significantly reduced ground clearance compared to production models. Nevertheless, all the characteristic features of the Mercedes 107 are preserved - and this is appropriate if we approach the recognized classics. New are the centrally located ends of the exhaust system, which in the original are on the left.

We won't see what's hidden in the cabin or under the hood just yet, but we can admit that the driver and his passenger have Recaro sports seats. We can judge the drive from previous Mechatronics products. Both models are equipped with the eight-cylinder M 113 engine that debuted in 1997 in the E-Class - more precisely in its 4,3-liter version with 279 horsepower. This M 113 engine is expected to run under the SLC's hood, and there is an option to opt for a larger 5,0-litre version of it. In both cases, the numbers will be much more serious than in the original, whose most powerful model has 240 hp, while modern cars can count up to 306 hp. And let's not forget that the "eight" with three valves per cylinder has a 5,5-liter modification, the power of which varies from 367 to 400 horsepower. The upgraded classic is expected to sell for around 400 euros.
