The station wagon is most often associated with a family limousine, boring styling and quiet driving. Fortunately, the days of roomy trunks and slow-moving "caravans" along the roads are over. Automotive designers are now releasing models that effectively defy these stereotypes and completely change the idea of station wagons.
Design for five
The latest BMW 5 Series Touring is one of the most stylishly beautiful body styles on the market. I would even try to say that this is the most beautiful car in the history of the Bavarian brand. As it turned out, not only for me is the most visually interesting variation of the new five. The aggressive and dynamic silhouette was awarded the highest award in the field of design and was awarded the title of "Best of the Best". But is it only the appearance that matters? One thing is for sure: the BMW 5 Series has never been such a versatile sedan. Exterior design is timeless. Stylish design combined with simplicity of details creates a unique atmosphere and harmony.
When designing this car, the BMW brand decided to abandon controversial body lines and return to the classics. I must admit that the effect is extremely successful. The 5 Series station wagon looks elegant and dynamic. The bodywork is a blend of sporty aggressiveness and limousine sophistication. It is immediately clear that this is a premium car. The front part resembles most of the brand's models - a long hood, a recessed interior, an original grille and aggressive headlights. This car can't be wrong. The slightly sloping roofline blends perfectly with the tailgate and doesn't look like a hearse at all. The rear end is even more racial than that of the limousine in this series.
Of course, the driver will not be ashamed to go on this car to a business meeting or an exclusive event. Such a wagon is more associated with the freedom and active lifestyle of the owner than with a father who takes children to school or kindergarten. Five combines many traits into one whole.
Cockpit ergonomics and full play
A premium limousine is, of course, the highest quality of materials and the perfect fit, space and comfort. For the first time in a Bavarian model, there is so much space that discomfort is out of the question. The driver and passengers nearby will feel great and will take very comfortable positions. The seats, upholstered in soft Dakota leather, fit perfectly to the shape of the body, providing good support and comfort. Electronics control the fit to the body, ensuring, among other things, that the headrests stick to the traveler's head or prevent it from sliding sideways.
Passengers in the back seat are guaranteed the space of a limousine and don't have to struggle with rigid stance or finding the optimal body position. There is enough space under your feet and above your head. First of all, this is a masterful profiling of the sofa and thoughtful seats. Passengers occupy optimal positions and do not itch their heads on the ceiling lining. They sit comfortably and do not complain about the lack of space around. The cabin is pure ergonomics and a reference to the older model of the 7 series. On the one hand, “rich”, and on the other hand, everything is at hand. In addition, the simplicity and exemplary operation of all on-board devices. A moment is enough to see the possibilities and the set of available features from the top shelf. Panoramic sunroof, active cruise control, unexpected lane change system, 4-zone air conditioning, 3D color function screen with navigation, thermal imaging camera and parking system, Head Up - display of speed and basic messages on the windshield, Adaptive Drive - suspension control system, this is one of the useful gadgets on board the new five.
In addition, as befits a station wagon, there is a large luggage compartment - 560 liters for suitcases. Easy access to the luggage compartment is provided by a separately opening window or the entire tailgate.
Flexibility compresses the chair
You buy a BMW not for the place and for the transport of goods. A car of this brand should be prestigious and elegant, beautiful and, above all, have high power, precise steering and excellent driving characteristics. The equipment on board must allow aggressive driving, but within safety limits. The test model has everything. In addition, it provides driving pleasure and excitement. It holds the road well in corners, has good acceleration and smoothly picks up speed. Rides great. Thanks to the latest automatic transmission, the BMW 530 d adapts the gears perfectly to the position of the accelerator pedal and the speed reached. The drive is transmitted perfectly, without jerks and waiting for gear changes. The automatic transmission lever resembles a joystick not only in appearance, but also in principle of operation. The choice of the driving mode (for example, Drive) is carried out by sequential movement forward or backward, but not constantly - the stick returns to its original position. The button at the top of it activates the "parking" option. For those who want more sensations, the SPORT program is provided, which sharpens the reactions and gives dynamics, and additionally, in the SPORT+ version, the ESP is completely disabled. However, this is a mode for experienced drivers who know how to tame the dynamic engine and road conditions. We have 245 hp at our disposal. and acceleration to hundreds in 6,4 seconds. Under the hood is a six-cylinder diesel unit, which is quite economical and consumes little fuel at moderate gas pressure. Surprisingly cheap to drive.
The BMW 5 Series Touring is thought out to the smallest detail. Thanks to the adaptive suspension, it provides either a sporty feel or perfect comfort on request. It is safe to say that it is close to ideal. Prices for the tested model start at PLN 245, but if the car is retrofitted to the presented version, an additional PLN 500 will have to be spent. Additional equipment is rich, but, unfortunately, it pulls hard in your pocket. This is the only drawback that I find in this car.
