The 4-speed manual gearbox VAZ 2121 was assembled from 1977 to 1994 at a factory in Tolyatti and installed on the very first modifications of the popular Niva SUV in Russia. This box in its design practically does not differ from the transmission of the VAZ 2106 sedan.
The Niva family also includes manual transmissions: 2123, 21213 and 21214.

Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of the Niva box
Most of the complaints come to the noisy operation of the manual transmission and its fuzzy switching
In second place are strong vibrations and howl of the box at certain engine speeds
Next come oil leaks from the seals, followed by switching difficulties
And the last is the spontaneous disengagement of the transmission due to wear of the latches.
