Replacing the mass air flow sensor on the VAZ 2114

When a malfunction of the mass air flow sensor appears on VAZ 2114 cars with an injection engine, the symptoms can be very different. Everything can start gradually with a slight increase in fuel consumption and ending with an unstable engine operation, floating speed, etc. On a personal example with a front wheel drive car, I can say that I had a problem with this sensor. First, the injector icon began to light up, and then the revolutions began to float strongly. At the same time, fuel consumption has almost doubled.

This situation continued for quite a long time, fortunately, that there was an on-board computer and errors could be reset, thereby returning the engine state to normal. But sooner or later the sensor had to be changed. To replace it, you need a minimum of tools, namely:

  • crosshead screwdriver
  • Key for 10, or head with a crank

First you need to open the hood and disconnect the negative terminal from the battery, and then disconnect the block with wires from the sensor by pressing the latch from below:

After that, use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the clamp that tightens the thick inlet pipe coming from the air filter. This is clearly shown in the photo below:

Now we remove the pipe and move it slightly to the side:

Next, you can start unscrewing the two bolts attaching the DMRV to the air filter housing. The ratchet handle is most convenient. One bolt is clearly visible in the photo, and the second is on the lower side, but access to it is quite normal, you can unscrew it without any problems:

Then remove the air flow sensor and install a new one in reverse order. You can buy a new DMRV on a VAZ 2114 at a price of 2000 to 3000 rubles, depending on what type of device you need. It is better to look at the part code of the old sensor before buying.
