Mercedes-AMG C63 - This version of the robust "medium" from Stuttgart is available in four body styles, that is, as a convertible, coupe, limousine or station wagon. The choice is an individual matter, the most athletic of them fell into our hands.

The C-Class Coupe debuted in late 2015, a year and a half after the limousine. It attracted the attention of the public with its resemblance to the top S-class coupe, although in this case we are dealing with a model two segments smaller. At the same time, the company showed the strongest varieties signed by AMG, although they appeared in showrooms only in March 2016. Anyone who expected them to look like a packaged, tattooed bluff might be disappointed. Although the dashboard is marked C63, it is in vain to look for aggressively widened fenders, although the front ones have additional openings, and the hood has additional embossing. Otherwise, the body is completely stock, identical to the base 1.6 engine with 156 hp, but decorated with special side skirts and bumpers. At the front there is a splitter and holes so that the powerful engine can breathe freely, and at the back there is a diffuser and four exhaust pipes. So the best thing about the C63 is hidden under the body.

Smaller and stronger

When Mercedes announced the end of its powerful 8-litre V6,2 engine, many car fans said it was the end of an era. Nothing will be the same. The new engine was treated like it had fallen out of a goat's tail. This is right? So to speak. True, something beautiful has ended, but the end of the world is still far away. And the new engine is great in many ways.

From the point of view of a person with a 6.2 label, being infatuated with something to which a 4.0 badge can be attached seems absurd. But it is not. First, because the force is still able to move the continents, and there would be enough moment to freeze the sun and move the earth. This, of course, is thanks to the turbochargers, which make each liter of engine power capable of producing 119 hp, for a total of 476 handy horses. The torque is 650 Nm, which is 50 Nm more than the huge bass generator. The effect is that the new coupe, despite a slightly higher curb weight, is significantly faster than its predecessor. After stopping, the speed of 100 km / h appears after 4 seconds, 0,4 seconds faster than before. This is an excellent result.

To be fair, this is not the strongest variant and lacks the S designation added to the name on the tailgate. The top version has 510 hp. and 700 Nm of torque, but this allows you to reduce the acceleration time to hundreds by just 0,1 seconds, and the top speed is either factory (250 km/h) or unlocked (290 km/h). ) is identical for both versions. But the truth is that all those "complainers" who yearn for the previous engine are right. The good old V8 6.2 affects the driver like Till Lindemann (lead singer of Rammstein) on the audience. The new one speaks beautifully, but does not captivate the crowds.

When you look at the technical data, you may come to the conclusion that gas station visits will be very rare. In the city, a four-liter heart should average 11,4 liters per hundred, and in mixed mode it should be 8,6 liters. This is 32% less than its predecessor. The biggest surprise of the C63 coupe is its steering system. Mercedes has always been known for the fact that its cars, even the most powerful ones, turn, but do it in a rather peculiar way. Whatever word you use to describe it, it still had nothing to do with sports. This is not the case here. The feel is top notch, making it the first time it can be paired with a BMW M4 head-to-head, and the winner is far from clear. Precision is top notch and the grip will surprise many drivers. 

After all, going to the tracks makes sense, even though the engineers from Affalterbach didn't design the car to be transported on a tow truck around the race tracks. While it can do a few laps for fun, daily driving will also provide it in large doses. And when we get tired of a sports car, we turn on the “Comfort” mode and forget about all the inconveniences of everyday life.

If you're wondering if the new C63 Coupe can still cover the area with white smoke to the accompaniment of the roar of the engine, the answer is yes. The old crazy AMG spirit remains. This is achieved by a mechanical locking rear differential and a specially tuned ESP system. It has three operating modes: safe, sports and off. The first assumes that we don't like buckling, the second allows it to a limited extent, the third allows for unlimited destruction of the rear tires. Driving modes are assigned ESP settings, but they can be changed individually, such as suspension stiffness. You don't need to enter Individual Mode to do this, although it allows you to save your favorite song.

The seven-speed Dual Clutch Speedshift MCT Transmission works flawlessly and requires no driver intervention to get the job done. Beautiful hand switches can be used as interior decoration, unless we like to play with them. We still can't beat electronics. The only downside is that Mercedes did not provide a manual transmission, so traditionalists will be inconsolable.

The rear-wheel drive system and chassis do not have any easily noticeable disadvantages, especially since it feels much better in a coupe than in a sedan or station wagon. That in itself is reason enough to head into a Mercedes dealership without a second thought and order a C63 Coupe, parting with no less than £345. behind,. But that's not all, because the same can be said about the interior, where high-quality leather with yellow seams, pleasant-to-touch Alcantara, lightweight carbon fiber and shiny aluminum compete fiercely for the attention of passengers. The previous generation of the Mercedes-AMG C63 seethed with power that the car couldn't handle, or at least did so inefficiently. This made it a great-sounding machine that destroyed tires with clouds of burnt rubber. The new AMG C-Class already knows what to do with the potential under the hood. Excellent handling and great steering keep us from getting bored quickly, but now, in addition to immature games of creating black marks on the pavement, we can also enjoy fast driving without fear that the sound quality will be the most effective parameter.
