Mercedes G63 AMG and G65 AMG, or Gelenda with a sporty touch

The Mercedes G-Class hasn't wanted to leave the scene for more than three decades. During this time, it has evolved from an off-road vehicle for the army and law enforcement to an analogue of the S-class limousine with high ground clearance. This year, two versions, marked with the letters AMG, entered the showrooms: G63 and G65, which are even stronger than their predecessors.

While the facelift of the version without the Mercedes sports division badge only focused on small details, the AMG versions also saw changes to the engine. Of course, as in the weaker versions, LED daytime running lights are added. In addition, the grille, bumpers and mirror housings were slightly redesigned, but most importantly, the G55 AMG model simply went down in history. In its place was introduced 544-horsepower Mercedes G63 AMG and a marked monster for 612 horses G65 AMG. So far, the most powerful Gelenda has produced 507 hp. The extra power comes from the use of a dual supercharger instead of the single compressor that the G55 had in its later years.

Mercedes G63 AMG - double charge this time

The Mercedes G63 AMG, like its predecessor, has a top speed limiter of 210 km/h. It accelerates from 100 to 5,4 km/h in 0,1 seconds (55 seconds faster than the G0,54 Kompressor). Despite an absurd drag coefficient (63!), the G13,8 AMG is expected to burn an average of just 8 liters of gasoline. For a V2,5 packed into a XNUMX-ton all-wheel drive vehicle, the result is truly outstanding. Probably, few people will be able to repeat the result of laboratory fuel consumption, achieved, among other things, through the use of Start-Stop technology, but as always, this is a fact worthy of attention.

Mercedes G65 AMG - to spite the environmentalists with V12 biturbo

It will be much less economical for this Mercedes G65 AMGwhich under the hood has a 6-liter V12 with a torque of 1000 Nm, available from just 2300 rpm! An amazing engine provides excellent performance - up to 100 km / h, the SUV accelerates in 5,3 seconds. The maximum speed is 230 km/h. In the case of the top model, the reduction in fuel consumption was not so important, so the G65 AMG was not equipped with a Start-Stop system and will burn at least 17 liters of gasoline.

Both models were paired with the first seven-speed automatic transmission for passenger cars: the 7G-Tronic in the AMG SpeedShift Plus variant. This transmission model is used in particular in the SL65 AMG. While driving, you can change gears with shifters on the steering wheel, and if you are not interested in dynamic driving, you can easily set the comfortable driving mode and enjoy stable kilometers.

Sporty style worthy of the AMG badge? Of course, but comfort is more important

Inside, you can see that the greatest attention was paid to comfort when designing the cabin - the Mercedes G-Class has a luxurious interior trimmed with high-quality materials. The car is chock-full of electronics, comfort-enhancing accessories, and one of the few items from the past is a solid knob attached to the dashboard in front of the passenger seat, which can come in handy when someone has a crazy idea. off-road driving. No point in driving a Mercedes G65 AMG on dirt roads? Probably yes, but who will stop the rich?

Red-painted brake calipers and a new exhaust system give the Mercedes G AMG a sporty touch. On the outside, we can distinguish the most expensive G-Classes thanks to a different chrome steering wheel, flared fenders and spoilers. Inside, the AMG model will feature illuminated treadplates with the AMG logo and other floor mats.

The standard equipment of even the cheapest G-class model is very rich, so there are no big differences between the AMG versions and, for example, the G500. Each of them has automatic air conditioning, cruise control, heated seats, full electrics and a multimedia package. Safety is provided by airbags for the driver and passengers of both rows of seats, ABS, ESP, bi-xenon headlights. The Mercedes G65 AMG has AMG sports seats, designo leather upholstery, for which you have to pay extra in other versions.

Mercedes allows you to spend additional tens of thousands of PLN, including for a 7 W Harman Kardon Logic 540 audio system, which consists of 12 Dolby Digital 5.1 speakers, a telephone system, a TV tuner, a rear view camera, a parking aid or a parking heater.

The Mercedes G-Class line from the AMG family is available only in a closed version with a five-door body. The short model is only available in the G300 CDI and G500, while the convertible is available in the G500.

How much should we pay for the new Mercedes G63 AMG and G65 AMG?

With new versions of AMG, the price list has been updated, which can lead to heart palpitations. So far, the 507-horsepower G55 AMG has cost around PLN 600. Today you will have to pay for the G63 AMG. zloty. The price is astronomical, especially since the characteristics of the old and new models are similar.

However, this is nothing compared to the Mercedes G65 AMG, which is 55 seconds faster than the old G0,2 and has a top speed of 20 km/h. This construction costs PLN 1,25 million! This is undoubtedly the most expensive production Mercedes G-Class in its more than thirty years of history and the most expensive car in the current price list of the German brand. We will buy both the SLS AMG GT roadster and the S65 AMG L cheaper!

However, by choosing the G65 AMG, the buyer will receive the most powerful SUV available in the showroom (not counting the tuners). Even the top Porsche Cayenne Turbo has "only" 500 hp. Strongest does not mean fastest. The Porsche numbers are clearly better: 4,8 seconds to 100 km/h, 278 km/h. The second largest SUV available in Poland is the Mercedes GL63 AMG (558 hp), which is also faster than the G-Class – it accelerates from 100 to 4,9 km/h in 250 seconds and on the highway it reaches 5 km. / h. The same is true of the twin-supercharged BMW X6M and X555M with a 250-horsepower engine that will accelerate to 100 km / h and 4,7 km / h will appear on the speedometer in XNUMX seconds. In short: the G-Class is undoubtedly the most powerful, but far from the fastest. However, does anyone buy this machine because of the performance? This is a man's car for strong personalities who want to show who is the king of the roads and who is successful.
