Mercedes: a few years, but tense, in Formula 1 - Formula 1

Mercedes has a long tradition in motorsport, but in F1 he only played six seasons. Despite this short but intense experience at the Circus, the German team is the only one (together with Ferrari) who can boast of having raced two of the strongest riders: Michael Schumacher e Juan Manuel Fangio... Let's find out together a short history of this team.

Mercedes: history

La Mercedes debuts in F1 в French Grand Prix in 1954, the fourth race of the season, and immediately received a double with an Argentine driver. Juan Manuel Fangio (World Champion 1952) and with German Karl Kling... Third pilot, Hans Herrmann (also German) forced to retire instead.

The first season of Stars in the Circus is an immediate winner: Fangio becomes world champion for the second time thanks to three other successes in Germany (where a fourth car is installed for a home driver. German Lang), in Switzerland and Italy.

Goodbye racing

The first full season took place in 1955 Mercedes, the dominance of the German house is even more evident. Fangio has four wins (Argentina, Belgium, Holland and Italy) in seven Grand Prix and a new contract with the UK. Sterling Moss brings home a home race victory. Among other hired pilots, we note the already famous Kling and Herrmann, our Piero Taruffi and french Andre Simon.

However, at the end of the season, Star decides to retire due to an accident. Pierre Levegh all 24 Hours of Le Mans driving a Mercedes: 84 dead and 120 wounded.

Back to F1

La Mercedes he only returns to F1 in 2010 when he buys from Ross Brown most of the team Brawn gp, 2009 World Champion, and renames the team to her own name.

Two German pilots hired: seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher (returned to racing after a four-year absence) e Nico Rosberg (7th place at the World Championship a year earlier).

Return Mercedes in the Circus this is good, but not exclusively: the best results, oddly enough, are given by Rosberg (who takes three third places in Malaysia, China and the UK), and the team finishes fourth in the World Constructors Championship.

The situation worsened in 2011 when - despite confirming fourth place among the teams - there were no podium finishes and Schumi's best result of the race was a fourth place finish in Canada.

In 2012 Mercedes he even finished fifth among the constructors, but brought more satisfaction: the team's return to success 57 years later (thanks to Rosberg in China) and Michael's last podium in his career (in the European Grand Prix).

A quantum leap for Star comes in 2013: it's called Lewis Hamilton (World Champion 2008) instead of Schumacher, and two races are yet to be contested, the German team is second among the constructors. Thanks to the Englishman's victory in Hungary and Rosberg's two successes in Monte Carlo and in the UK.
