Mercedes-Benz is participating in a project to commission an energy storage facility at a closed coal-fired power plant in Elverlingsen, Germany. The warehouse consists of 1 cells with a total capacity of 920 MW / 8,96 MW (capacity / maximum capacity).

The idea of ​​turning a coal-fired power plant, started in 1912 and recently shut down, into an energy storage facility is not just an environmentalist marketing invention. The power plants are directly connected to the country's power grid, have a convenient location and well-trained personnel.

Our western neighbors are investing heavily in renewable energy sources (wind farms) that have their own performance characteristics: under favorable conditions, they produce more energy than the country can consume and store. Energy store in Elverlingsen will balance the consumption and production of energy in Germany: will accumulate excess power until it is needed.

The battery modules with a total capacity of 8 kWh come from the electric Smart ED / EQ. It would be enough to produce about 960 cars. And they look like this:
